We are seeking an Intermediate/Senior Accountant to support our newly-acquired projects in Ecuador. The ideal candidate will perform monthly financial accounting, cost analysis and budgeting, support internal control, coordinate audit and tax filings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This is position will be working full time in our Vancouver head office.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting and Reporting:
- Monthly banks, subledger to general ledger and intercompany transaction.
- Maintain the general ledger and period-end closing.
- Assist in preparing consolidated financial reports for multi-entity organizations.
Cost Analysis & Budgeting:
- Review/code weekly purchase and payment requests to ensure accurate coding and compliance with internal control policies and procedure.
- Perform cost analysis related to mining operations, capital projects, and exploration activities with comparison to budget.
- Collaborate with operations teams to monitor budgets and analyze variances.
- Develop financial models to evaluate project profitability and operational efficiency.
Internal Control and Process Improvement:
- Perform monthly self-internal control testing, documentation, and review to ensure compliance with internal control procedures.
- Assist semi-annual and annual internal control assessment and testing.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement best practices.
- Participate in system upgrades or implementations, ensuring alignment with operational needs.
Audit & Tax Support:
- Coordinate internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely resolution of audit queries.
- Prepare and review tax filings, including corporate tax returns, GST/VAT, and royalty calculations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with operational and technical teams to provide financial insights for decision-making.
- Support senior management with ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably with public listed company within the mining or manufacturing industries.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Workiva) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, GAAP, and regulatory frameworks in the mining sector.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Effective communication skills to interact with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Fluency in Spanish is an asset but not required
