What You Will Do
Gannett Fleming is seeking an Intermediate
Civil Designer/Engineer - Roadway to join our growing team in Toronto.

This role is ideal for a motivated professional with
7–12 years of experience in roadway and transportation engineering. The position offers the opportunity to lead and collaborate on impactful projects with municipal, provincial, and private clients, including the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), Metrolinx, and municipalities across Ontario.
The role focuses on detailed design, multidisciplinary coordination, and project management support. It’s a chance to further develop technical skills while contributing to transformative infrastructure projects in the Greater Toronto Area.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery:
- Lead and contribute to the planning, preliminary, and detailed design of roadways and highways.
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal design standards (e.g., TAC, OTM, MTO Design Supplements).
- Prepare engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications using tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and OpenRoads.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, and design calculations.
Coordination
- Manage multidisciplinary coordination across geotechnical, drainage, utilities, traffic, and structural teams.
- Act as a technical liaison with clients, municipalities, and other project stakeholders.
- Attend and present at meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Fieldwork And Analysis
- Conduct site inspections, surveys, and assessments to gather critical project data.
- Provide technical input for feasibility studies, design reports, and proposals
Leadership
- Mentor junior staff in technical design and project management practices.
- Take on roles such as Assistant Project Manager for complex assignments.
Education | Experience:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technician (CET) designation in Ontario.
- 7–12 years of experience in roadway or transportation engineering projects.
- Strong technical proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads.
- Knowledge of relevant design standards (TAC, OTM, MTO).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary coordination and stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project management experience and/or PMP certification.
- Experience with Design-Build or Public-Private Partnership (P3) projects.
- Background in urban roadway, highway, and transit corridor design.
- Proficiency in traffic analysis tools and environmental regulations.
- Proven track record of delivering projects for MTO, Metrolinx, or municipalities.
