What You’ll Be Doing
The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital, and grow and invest actively throughout North America and key financial centres around the world. Our goal is to be our clients’ preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services.
As an Associate, you will become integral to the “Deal Team”, which includes senior corporate bankers, by providing a broad range of support including financial statement and data analysis, financial modeling, credit analysis, industry research and assisting in the preparation of information memoranda and client pitch books. You will also be actively involved in the credit approval process, documentation and closing of loan transactions and on-going management of the loan portfolio.

How You’ll Succeed
- Analysis - Responsible for conducting in-depth company, industry and portfolio analysis to support the credit relationships for a portfolio of clients.
- Client Proposals - Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals and pitch documents which includes preparing bank market update slides, market pricing comps and syndication strategy slides.
- Credit Recommendations - Conduct sound, timely and well-communicated recommendations for credit facilities supported by thorough analysis and well-executed interpretation of relevant financial, industry, business and market information.
- Financial Modeling - Run financial models mainly focused on credit analysis and risk rating evaluation.
- Presentations - Preparing presentation materials and relationship profitability assessments, which involve liaising with other product and industry groups within CIBC Capital Markets. Prepare internal committee presentation documentation.
Who You Are
- You can demonstrate relevant experience. Minimum 2 years of related experience; Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, engineering or other complementary business industry discipline. Completion of MBA or CFA, CPA/CA designation will be preferred.
- You are an effective communicator. Excellent presentation skills evidenced by an ability to be a focused, confident and a persuasive presenter. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues.
- You are success-oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping solve and execute on the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients.
- You possess strong technical skills. Strong technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (Bloomberg) and applicable software. You use your detail-orientation to ensure analysis and advice is accurate and thorough.
- You are naturally curious and have a penchant for learning and interpreting information. You will use your natural curiosity to learn and more broadly to catalyze success at CIBC.
- You're motivated by collective success. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners. Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets.
