A day in the life of a Sr. Associate, Content Editor
In this highly collaborative role, the Content Editor is responsible for ensuring that all communications in all channels are grammatically correct, consistent, accurate, adhere to our editorial style and brand guidelines and have been reviewed and approved by the necessary stakeholders. The Content Editor is accountable for the final approval of creative deliverables, based on compiled feedback and a last review of the finished product.
Responsibilities
The role involves collaborating with members of the Experience Design team and peers across the business, including legal, brand, digital marketing product owners, to help facilitate the delivery of quality, error-free communications. This includes:
- Working with marketing materials and customer communications in digital and print channels (like emails, banners, Facebook/Instagram posts, SEO/SEM copy, web copy, video ad copy and letters).
- Reviewing and revising content to consistency with grammatical norms, editorial guidelines, brand standards, channel best practices, accessibility requirements and guidance from legal and compliance.
- Participating in brainstorming, advocating for the customer and ensuring that communications are delivered in plain language.
- Maintaining a fundamental understanding of all products, including marketing language, SEO best practices, partner brand guidelines and the accompanying legal disclosures.
- Working with writers to challenge and improve their work, while recognizing and raising potential issues throughout the creative process.
- Collaborating with various business partners to collect and incorporate feedback from the required parties at all stages of development.
- Mastering the Capital One Canada editorial style guide and providing updates and improvements as necessary.
- Reconciling feedback, resolving conflicts/inconsistencies and addressing concerns from stakeholders, including looping back with them.
- Being accountable for final approval of the creative deliverables, based on compiled feedback and a last review of the finished product.
- Helping to onboard new team members.
Success Criteria
The Content Editor is measured on the consistent delivery of quality, error-free work, in every channel and for pre-customers, customers and associates.
Success criteria include:
- Ensuring that content is error-free, on brand, aligned to the style guide, accessible, legally compliant and optimized.
- Ensuring the appropriate approvals are requested and documented, as outlined in the creative process.
Education And Experience
Basic requirements:
- A degree/diploma in journalism, communications, English or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of editing experience for digital channels and/or customer-facing communications.
- Familiarity with CP style and working with company style guides.
- Working knowledge of accessibility and SEO best practices.
- Successful completion of Capital One’s editing assessment (conducted at time of interview).
Preferred Requirements:
- Previous experience in the financial services industry (ideal, but not necessary).
- Previous experience working with marketing, legal and compliance teams (ideal, but not necessary).
- Previous experience editing in Figma.
Skills Required
The Content Editor must be highly collaborative, organized and able to facilitate discussion among many different job families to gain alignment, and approval, on the final creative being delivered. Specific skills required include:
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills, with a strong command of Canadian English including grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Ability to identify potential issues and flag them to their manager.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong overall communication skills.
- The ability to establish good working relationships with various business partners.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities/tight deadlines and proactively communicate with stakeholders.
- Professional demeanour and proven track record of performance.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Familiarity with Adobe Workfront or comparable work management software.
- Ability to work well both with others and independently.
