The Opportunity
As a Co-Op Student in Global Sustainability, you will play a key role in advancing various strategic Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. You will support the execution of AGI’s sustainability strategy and related initiatives, data collection and reporting at the corporate level. This includes supporting initiatives for ESG topics such as the management of AGI’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy usage, diversity & inclusion and responsible supply chain efforts, among others.
This is a 4-month Co-Op term set to commence in January 2025 and will go up until April 2025. This is an in-person role based out of AGI’s Corporate Office in Toronto. You can read more about AGI’s sustainability efforts here: https://www.aggrowth.com/en-us/sustainability
The Team
The Co-Op Student will work closely with the Senior Manager of Global Sustainability with frequent interactions with senior members of the Corporate Development team. They will be required to interact with teams across AGI’s global operations with a focus on Canada and the United States dedicated to manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, and corporate offices.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, delivery, and monitoring of various ESG initiatives (e.g., energy management and decarbonization, water management, D&I, community engagement)
- Assist with ESG data collection and trend analysis across global facilities including support with establishing data controls, designing dashboards, and developing presentations to enable evidence-based decision-making
- Support with calculating AGI’s annual Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with the GHG protocol
- Support the regular review and update of sustainability-related policies and processes
- Support the development of both internal and external sustainability-related communications including updates to senior leadership, internal presentations, and external-facing sustainability reports including AGI’s Modern Slavery Statement and Annual Sustainability Report
- Support in responding to information requests from external stakeholders such as sustainability rating agencies, investors, and/or customers
- Conduct market research and benchmarking on ESG-related industry trends, best practices, and external reporting frameworks and standards, and global sustainability-related regulations
Requirements
Mandatory qualifications:
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program such as business, economics, engineering, sustainability, environmental studies, or related field
- Demonstrated experience and interest in sustainability topics (e.g., energy management, GHG emissions, diversity and inclusion, etc.) through past internships, research projects and/ or coursework
- Excellent research and business writing skills with the ability to synthesize information and communicate complex topics
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Enjoy working in an ever-changing, collaborative, and fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a sustainability-related role or function
- Familiarity with PowerBI
