We are looking for an Infrastructure Materials Specialist to join our Specialist Technology, Analysis and Research (STAR) team. We are looking for someone who can be our national expert on infrastructure materials, particularly steel and concrete, supported by other practitioners in the region and a global network of experts.
The mix of work will include specialist advice on durability design, problem investigation, specification writing and review, materials decarbonization strategies, and much more. You will be encouraged to pursue relevant research projects, including in partnership with industry and/or academia. Your involvement will vary from a brief phone conversation to being an integral part of the project team and may require occasional overseas travel. You will be exposed to a variety of projects, applications and construction types.
You will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to develop expertise in particular materials to suit your interests and to complement existing expertise within the team. The position will also provide the opportunity to develop your technical, project management, asset management and business development skills.

- Demonstrable interest in materials engineering for infrastructure projects, and desire to specialize in this area
- Knowledge of durability design strategies for steel and reinforced and unreinforced concrete
- Proficiency with relevant Canadian and USA standards, and knowledge of materials specifications
- Knowledge of sustainability impacts of reinforced concrete and steel over their lifecycle, and knowledge of embodied carbon reduction strategies and related performance impacts
- Knowledge of related materials and products, e.g. waterproofing, admixtures and additives
- Good report writing and presentation skills
- Willingness to engage with standards committees and technical groups from CSA, CISC, American Concrete Institute, ASTM, Post-Tensioning Institute, or similar
- Willingness to travel occasionally, e.g. site visits
Is this role right for you?
- Minimum five years relevant industry experience
- At least a master’s degree in a relevant subject, such as civil, structural or materials engineering preferred but not required
- P. Eng. qualification preferred but not required
- Practical knowledge of concrete condition assessment and repair
- Knowledge of material characterization and testing
- Knowledge of construction techniques and experience on a construction site
- Supply chain experience or experience in material R&D
- Knowledge in 3D concrete printing or other advanced construction methods
- Knowledge of or interest in other materials and their use in the built environment, such as non-ferrous metals, masonry, glass, stone, or ceramics

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $90,000 to $100,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.

Compétences essentielles
- Intérêt marqué pour l'ingénierie des matériaux visant des projets d’infrastructures, et volonté de se spécialiser dans ce domaine;
- Connaissance des stratégies de durabilité en conception s’appliquant à l’acier, au béton armé et au béton non armé;
- Bonne connaissance des normes et des codes canadiens et américains en vigueur, et des spécifications des matériaux;
- Connaissance des impacts du béton armé et de l'acier sur le développement durable tout au long de leur cycle de vie; connaissance des stratégies de réduction du carbone intrinsèque et des effets corollaires sur la performance;
- Connaissance des matériaux et des produits connexes (imperméabilisants, adjuvants, additifs, mélanges, etc.);
- Aptitudes en rédaction et aisance à faire des présentations;
- Volonté de participer aux travaux de divers comités de normalisation et groupes techniques, notamment l’Association canadienne de normalisation (CSA), l’Institut canadien de la construction en acier (ICCA), l’American Concrete Institute (ACI), l’American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), le Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) ou tout autre organisme équivalent;
- Volonté d’effectuer des déplacements occasionnels (par ex., des visites de chantiers ou autres).
Qualifications
- Au moins cinq (5) ans d’expérience au sein de l’industrie;
- Maîtrise dans un domaine pertinent, préférablement en génie civil, génie des structures ou génie des matériaux, un atout;
- Titre d’ingénieur, un atout.

- Maîtrise du français et de l’anglais, un atout important;
- Connaissance pratique en évaluation de l’état du béton et en réparation du béton;
- Connaissance des techniques de caractérisation des matériaux et des protocoles d’essai sur les matériaux;
