Project Description
CALIPER (Canadian Laboratory Initiative on Pediatric Reference Intervals) is a nation-wide initiative aimed at developing a comprehensive database of healthy reference intervals, also known as reference values or normal ranges, for blood tests in children. The CALIPER project is designed to fill existing gaps in pediatric reference intervals for medical laboratory tests used to assess children with medical concerns.

Summary Of Objectives And Purpose Of Job
The CALIPER program is currently seeking a full-time Clinical Research Project Coordinator (CRPC) to join their team! The CRPC will be working closely with the Program Head and the CALIPER research program members. The CRPC's primary focus will be to coordinate activities of the CALIPER research study and various new subprojects, which will include patient recruitment and data collection, study administration, preparation of consents and paperwork required by the Research Ethics Board, organization of data entry and analysis, and management of the current database. The position will also involve performing outreach activities to promote the program and establish partnerships with community organizations, such as schools and community centres, within the GTA.
This position will initially be open for a one-year contract, which will be eligible for renewal up to five years.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
Outreach & Recruitment
- Plan and lead outreach and recruitment activities across the GTA for CALIPER and its various sub-studies (phone calls, emails, presentations, meetings, etc.)
- Establish and strengthen partnerships with various community organizations throughout the GTA (e.g. schools, day care centres, pediatrician offices, etc.)
- Plan and lead the development and distribution of promotional materials (flyers, brochures, videos, etc.) for CALIPER and its various sub-studies throughout the GTA
- Deliver presentations to potential stakeholders as well as participants and families (both virtually and in-person)
- Scheduled, organize, and execute clinic days in the GTA and conduct participant recruitment (children and adolescents) for CALIPER and its various sub-studies
- Monitor serious adverse events or reactions and report immediately to Principal Investigator
Staff
- Manage CALIPER volunteers (e.g. review applications, conduct interviews, onboard/train/supervise volunteers)
- Assist with management of CALIPER staff and co-students (e.g. review applications, conduct interviews, provide training and supervision)
- Oversee scheduling of CALIPER staff (e.g. phlebotomists) for clinic days in the community
Laboratory
- Conduct laboratory activities (e.g. centrifuging, aliquoting, instrument maintenance)
- Support reference interval studies (e.g. analyzing serum samples, performing clinical test validation experiments, and other related laboratory functions)
- Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment as well as sample storage and freezer organization
- Select/pull/prepare/ship samples for analysis
Scientific
- Organize data updates and testing of the CALIPER online database and mobile app
- Perform data analysis, interpretation, and presentation
- Assist with the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and other research documents
Administration
- Read and have detailed knowledge of protocol and study procedures
- Develop, maintain, update, and ensure adherence to essential study documents (e.g. protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.)
- Prepare, review, and submit REB submissions (e.g. new applications, amendments)
- Oversee REDCap database design and maintenance (e.g. data entry, quality checks)
- Oversee storage of participant records and other study documents
- Track and update inventory
- Order supplies
- Manage petty cash
- Submit expense reports
- Liaise and communicate with external collaborators and industry contacts
- Record and circulate meeting minutes
- Update websites
Here's What You'll Need
- Graduate degree in health sciences, public health, family studies, or related areas; MSc or equivalent required and PhD degree desirable
- Previous experience in community outreach is highly desirable
- Previous experience working with children
- Previous experience working with expectant mothers is highly desirable
- Excellent verbal communication/presentation skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent leadership skills
- Enthusiasm, ability to initiate conversations
- Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask
