Position Description
The Academic Assistant will work closely with the Program Director and will provide academic and administrative support for scientific activities. Key functions will assistance with coordination of clinical projects and project staff & volunteers, liaison with external and internal organizations, acting as an editorial assistant for an international journal, as well as some administrative and clerical functions.
Academic Functions
Here's What You'll Get To Do:
- Provide academic support to Program Director in various scientific activities
- Supporting the Program Director who is the Editor in Chief of a major scientific journal by tracking submissions, drafting emails, recruiting reviewers, and performing copyediting
- Review and editing of manuscripts, proposals, protocols, and grants associated with this and other projects
- Critical literature review and analysis
- Perform data analysis, interpretation, and presentation
- Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, and other scientific documents
- Participation and assistance with CALIPER project outreach and recruitment (such as CALIPER clinics held in community schools) (www.caliperproject.ca)
- Research data analysis using R statistics and other statistical programs
- Provide administrative and clerical support to Program Director
Here's What You'll Need
- Master's or Bachelors Degree in science, social science, or humanities
- Evidence of excellent organization and communication skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team
- Effective interpersonal, facilitation and organizational skills
- Proven ability to prioritize work and multitask in an efficient and organized manner
- Highly developed analytical, evaluative and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated high level of judgment, tact and diplomacy in interacting with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- Enthusiasm and initiative
- Ability to work well independently, as well as, in a team environment
- Excellent literature research skills
- Statistical and laboratory experience in the context of clinical research (highly desirable)
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet and MEDLINE searches)

Employment Type
Full-Time (2 year contract) with the possibility of annual renewal
