Job Summary
As an Administrative Assistant, you will support the WSIB Department and the Delinquency Control Department. This role involves assisting a diverse team, including lawyers, a paralegal, a WSIB Coordinator, and a Delinquency Control Officer. The position is relationship-focused and requires exceptional communication skills and proficiency in data management.
The WSIB Department supports Union Members with claims, appeals, and benefit applications. The Delinquency Control Department ensures timely payment and collection of benefits on behalf of Union Members.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain correspondence with stakeholders, including Trust Fund administrators, Local Unions, Business Representatives, and Employers.
- Issue daily email communications to internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor payment statuses and manage enforcement matters.
- Draft and process legal documents, grievances, and applications.
- Review and analyze reports, such as Accounts Receivable.
- Address inquiries from Union members and government agencies regarding claims and benefits.
- Prepare written appeal submissions and research decisions related to WSIB claims and disability benefits.
- Conduct legal and medical research as needed.
- Assist with forms for long-term disability and Canada Pension Plan Disability applications.
QualificationsRequired:
- 1-3 years of experience as an administrative assistant, preferably in legal or professional services.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong research skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage and prioritize workloads independently.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Effective team player committed to confidentiality.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance legislation.
- Familiarity with Employment Insurance, private disability insurance, and Canada Pension Plan Disability.
- Proficiency in legal and medical terminology relevant to claims.
- Experience in legal/medical research and construction industry knowledge.
- Multilingual abilities are an asset.
- Completion of related post-secondary programs (e.g., Office Administration, Legal Assistant Program, or Paralegal certification).
