JOB PURPOSE
Drafts reasons for decision on behalf of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC) regarding complaints and reports about nurses’ care, conduct and capacity and the Registration Committee (RC) regarding applications from applicants who do not meet one or more of the registration requirements, and applications to vary an existing order.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drafts clear, concise, and coherent decisions and reasons on behalf of the ICRC, and orders and reasons on behalf of the RC, incorporating medical, nursing, and legal terminology in accordance with benchmarks; incorporates relevant legal tests and case law, reflects the correct disposition and essential reasoning of the committees, and can withstand scrutiny from a variety of audiences.
- Prepares for committee meetings by reviewing case reports, identifying issues that may impact committee discussions and clarifying information with staff.
- Attends committee meetings, interacts with committee members and staff to clarify, or confirm information and takes detailed notes of committee members’ discussions, conclusions, rationale, and disposition for each case reviewed.
- Participates in the development and delivery of orientation and education content for ICRC and RC.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Combination of post-secondary education and 3 to 5 years of legal writing experience for an administrative tribunal.

- Analytical and Critical Thinking - applies general knowledge of relevant case law and legislation, including the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and Nursing Act, 1991 to review relevant information from identified sources ensuring relevant legal tests have been incorporated when drafting decisions as articulated by statutory committees; applies knowledge of decision-writing and procedural fairness principles ensuring decisions capture legally defensible rationale.
- Attention to Detail - Focuses on details to ensure decisions drafted contain accurate and sufficient detail; produces thorough and complete work with tight deadlines.
- Adaptability - anticipates, understands, and focuses on the needs of the intended audience to whom decisions apply, when work is questioned; adapts plans and approaches to manage challenging system partner interactions.
Hiring Range: $89,108 - $94,692
Full Salary Range: $89,108 - $106,930
