Part-Time Accounting Specialist
The Accounting Specialist will assist with financial reporting, account reconciliations, maintaining general ledger entries, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Supporting various Health Care programs with budget balancing, analytics, and conciliations. This position is part-time hours, requiring 2 days a week with possibilities of more hours during peak periods.
What you’ll do
- Process and maintain accurate general ledger entries, ensuring proper accounting for all transactions.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Record and reconcile journal entries for revenue, expenses, and adjustments.
- Manage and process vendor invoices and employee expense reports, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Assist with the preparation of internal and external financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and other financial statements.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, ensuring financial data is accurate and aligned with business goals.
- Assist with the preparation of tax filings, including GST/HST, payroll taxes, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
What you bring
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field in combination of at least five (5) years of experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably in a mid-sized to large organization.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Enrollment in or completion of a CPA program (Certified Professional Accountant) is an asset.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of Canadian tax laws, including GST/HST and payroll taxes.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Casual part-time hours (15-25 hours per week)
Wage:$30.00 - $39.00/hour - as a casual employee, total earnings include an additional 13% in lieu of benefits and paid vacation. The rate for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan
