Position: Technical Buyer
Corma Inc., a world leader in the supply of products for the manufacturing of corrugated plastic pipe, is seeking candidates for a Buyer. This position will be based out of our headquarters facility in Concord, Ontario (Suburban Toronto). In addition to our Toronto operations, Corma maintains manufacturing locations in, Forest Ontario, and over seas. The Company also maintains sales offices throughout the world. Our products are used in fluid and process applications in end markets such as: industrial, medical, automotive and agriculture.
General Accountability
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Technical Buyer will coordinate procurement of direct and indirect spend, prepare purchase orders, ensure best pricing and delivery while also utilizing forecasting and analytic skills to meet inventory needs. The Buyer will review, and update demand signals as required to ensure proper supply/demand elements are triggered in the order process system.
Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Review, evaluate, and monitor department purchase requisitions for proper authorizations, specifications;
- Prepare and issue purchase orders to suppliers and sub-contractors on a daily basis for timely receipt of goods to meet customer/ project requirements;
- Procurement of all direct/indirect spend to support Corma;
- Review and approve all Corma purchase orders;
- Ability to negotiate contracts for the purchase of production machinery/ equipment;
- Manage all contract purchases, cancellations, and re-schedule delivery dates in and out;
- Expedite open purchase orders for past due items and ensuring On-Time Delivery (OTD) for all purchases;
- Works with Engineering in support of new product introduction launches and prototype production builds;
- Act as Champion for ERP system implementation in supply chain department;
- Review and update demand signals as required to ensure proper supply/ demand elements are triggered in the order process system;
- Uses forecasting and negotiating skills to maintain supply of critical inventory items and implements supplier stocking programs where suitable and applicable;
- Plan, review and manage current and future MRP requirements based on production needs;
- Work closely with Master Production Scheduler to gain best understanding of forecast and production needs, and provide necessary support to production floor;
- Communicate supplier quality issues and rejections with appropriate vendors;
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance for approval of new parts or new vendors;
- Review competitive pricing, negotiate purchase contracts with suppliers ensuring the most cost competitive price, quality, and delivery;
- Negotiate optimum pricing solutions and order policies, terms and conditions with suppliers and sub-contractors;
- Evaluate, monitor, and manage suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery performance;
- Prepare supplier and purchasing status reports, administration tasks, such as filing, etc.;
- Maintain supplier and sub-supplier relationships and strategic alliances to ensure continuous flow of materials throughout the supply chain;
- Continuous management of Supply Chain Projects Matrix on network drive;
- Survey marketplace for alternate vendor quotes to ensure the competitiveness of existing vendors. Supply Chain Management (SCM) risk reduction – seeking alternate sources of supply;
- Prepare and analyze reports as needed;
- Review/approve all invoices for payment (direct and indirect);
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Able to read the Engineering Drawings;
- Basic understanding of technical specification and manufacturing processes;
- Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet frequent deadlines;
- A self-starter with the ability to set and handle multiple priorities;
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral;
- Must be computer literate – Microsoft Office Suite;
- Possess excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Educational/ Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years Buyer experience in manufacturing environment
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with MRP/ERP system
- College Certificate/Diploma in Supply Chain procedures or related work experience
- Lean manufacturing training and experience considered an asset
