Position Overview
The Junior Buyer is an entry-level role to purchasing. The role is responsible for supporting the purchasing function by managing supplier relationships, processing purchase requisitions and orders, optimizing purchasing systems and workflows, and ensuring the timely and accurate purchasing of goods and materials.
The successful candidate will be seeking to begin their career in procurement. This role will interface with production, engineering and product development groups to provide purchasing support while learning best practices in purchasing. Training and support will be provided to help develop expertise in purchasing operations.
Position Responsibilities
- Review Purchase Requisitions (PRs) and generate Purchase Orders (POs) from approved requisitions for general and indirect purchasing at the Vancouver site.
- Adhere to purchasing policies and maintain comprehensive documentation
- Handle new supplier setups, supplier and vendor change requests, and ensure onboarding requirements are met
- Maintain and update supplier databases, including vendor records and NDAs
- Run procurement reports and prepare/distribute supply chain metrics
- Handle Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) orders, including warehouse inventory items
- Complete supplier credit applications and collaborate with finance to expedite new supplier approvals
- Continuously monitor and improve supplier performance while fostering positive relationships
- Resolve supplier invoice discrepancies related to company name or purchasing details
- May support prototype buying and off the shelf parts buying
- Provide backup and support for buyers in the team as needed
- Collaborate with internal customers to ensure smooth procurement processes across departments.
- Assist in ad hoc procurement-related projects and tasks outside the defined scope when required.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 0-2 years of experience in procurement processes, background in full purchasing cycle preferred
- Familiarity with procurement systems (e.g., JDE or similar ERP systems).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to manage supplier and internal stakeholder relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude toward process improvement.
