Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Relief Worker is to provide direct and ongoing supervision and care to youth, as part of their daily living environment.
Many of the tasks that a Relief Worker must be able to perform for youth are parental care functions. Adolescence and early adulthood is a period of relatively rapid change and growth. Recognition and understanding of these changes, and promotion of them to take place in a safe, supportive and loving environment, is part of basic care.
The central purpose of Shelter Services work is to utilize relationship building, assessment, intervention, prevention, nurturing, counselling and role modelling skills to provide time-limited, change oriented care for youth.
The common denomination in Kennedy House Youth Services Shelter Program is the ability of the staff to structure the daily living environment and their own behaviour in a way that strives to achieve specific changes in the youth’ behaviour.
