The team:
Scotiabank’s Global Technology Enterprise Platforms’ (GTEP) - Tools & Monitoring team’s mandate is to help minimize production outage. The team leverages industry’s best monitoring tools and practices and offers full stack end-to-end monitoring services in the Bank, including Canadian Banking, International Banking, and Wealth Management.
The team offers consulting services, deploys monitoring tools, investigates performance bottlenecks, and supports production incidents.
When required, you can expect to provide rotational 24x7 on-call support.
The role:
Reporting to Senior Solutions Architect, GTEP - Tools & Monitoring, you will be a Splunk subject matter expert, involved in the day-to-day operation in the Tools & Monitoring team within Information Technology & Solutions (IT&S) department.
This is a temporary full-time assignment that’s expected to run until Aug. 2025.
Is this role right for you?
- You get to manage and maintain end-to-end performance for all applications, workloads, and environments.
- You will be deploying and providing support to Application Performance Management tools, as well as firefighting production problems that are performance related.
- You analyze performance data and act on negative performance trends to identify root cause.
- You get to support and enhance the Tools & Monitoring system as required to support the implementation of new business applications and technology.
- You will utilize your ability to implement and exploit performance tools from 3rd party vendors; plus participate in the technical assessments of 3rd party tools and vendors.
- You will consult with the development teams on large projects to provide Tools & Monitoring services, ensuring:
- There are no monitoring gaps.
- The design has been optimized from a cost perspective.
- The accuracy of the capacity plan.
- The completeness of the stress testing process.
- You will maintain current functional and technical knowledge of the Splunk platform and future products.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- You can demonstrate strong communication (verbal/written) skills.
- You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with performance tuning and capacity planning.
- You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with Splunk to:
- Support large-scale deployments with data feeds from multiple data centers.
- Assist & provide expert best practices in adoption, expansion, use cases and setting up Splunk.
- Configure, monitor and trouble-shoot Splunk performance, availability, and capacity.
- Develop reliable, efficient queries that will feed custom alerts and dashboards.
- You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in managing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure hosted infrastructure & systems.
- You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in deploying and managing applications with containers technology, such as Docker, Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), and Kubernetes.
- You have at least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience in CI/CD development via the use of BitBucket and/or Jenkins and/or Artifactory and/or Ansible.
- You can demonstrate a well-rounded technical understanding of various operating system environments (e.g., Windows, Linux, AIX, Solaris), Application Servers (e.g., WebSphere, Tomcat) & Databases (e.g., DB2, Oracle, MS SQL, noSQL)
- You can demonstrate a well-rounded technical knowledge of how DNS + network devices & protocols can impact web performance.
- Ideally, you are a Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect.
- A post-secondary education in Computer Science or Math or Engineering disciplines is an asset.
