We are seeking a Senior Applied Computer Vision Researcher to join our small, dynamic, and talented R&D team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to develop innovative AI-driven solutions for real-world, large-scale applications that aim to disrupt the logistics and transportation industry. This position offers access to extensive datasets, advanced in-house and cloud computing resources, and unique control over sensor selection and placement to design, train, and deploy cutting-edge AI models. In this role, you will also act as a technical reference for the team, you will mentor junior researchers, contribute to shaping the research roadmap, and have the opportunity to evolve into a technical leadership role in the future.
What you'll do:
● Research, design, and implement advanced AI technologies to improve core ML/CV algorithms and solve practical transportation and logistics challenges at scale.
● Focus on areas such as:
○ Computer vision: object detection, classification, OCR/text recognition, camera calibration, multi-object multi-camera tracking, 3D scene modeling, and map building.
○ Deep learning techniques: self-supervised learning, transfer learning, few-shot learning, and active learning.
● Collaborate with software engineers and product managers to deliver robust, scalable AI solutions.
● Provide technical feedback on experiments and code reviews, ensuring high-quality outputs from the team.
● Mentor and guide junior researchers, fostering their growth and development.
Conduct original, publishable research and contribute to the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
What you need:
● Education: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with a focus on computer vision and machine learning.
● Experience: At least 10 years (with a Master’s) or 5 years (with a PhD) of experience in the full ML/AI lifecycle, including model development, training, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration on generalization.
● Proven ability to develop large-scale systems for video/image data processing in real-time, on-premise, and cloud environments.
● Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
● Strong ML/CV engineering mindset to turn prototypes and POCs into scalable and reliable processing systems
● Strong programming skills in Python with knowledge of software development best practices.
● Solid understanding of software architecture, data structures, and scalable system design.
● Excellent communication and leadership skills to serve as a technical reference for the team.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with video processing, streaming, or encoding pipelines.
● Familiarity with edge computing and low-power ML processors.
● Technical Leadership experience in small R&D teams.
● Experience with human-in-the-loop AI systems.
● Experience building ML systems utilizing the Microsoft Azure cloud.
