*This position will perform work primarily at the Keele campus, however will be required at time to perform work at the Glendon and Markham campuses.*
Purpose:
The Security Technology Specialist is responsible for the installation, programming, and servicing of security devices such as cameras and door access control devices. Also, this role provides day to day operational support and maintenance of security devices throughout the university as well as project administrative support for the Coordinator, CCTV & Door Access Technology (the Coordinator).
Education:
College diploma in Electrical or Engineering Technologist or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience:
Three (3) years relevant related experience working in a Security Technology and project management environment dealing directly with professional consultants, general contractor, manufacturers, end users including onsite monitoring and inspection. Experience in a large organization environment.
Skills:
Demonstrated skills including:
Security Technology System architecture (CCTV {analogue and IP} Access Control.
Working knowledge of Project Management Principles.
Working knowledge of Security technology industry and best practices.
Working knowledge of Security Operations.
Ability to accesses specifications and read drawings in various paper and electronic formats.
Working knowledge of Building Codes, Planning, Design and construction related terminology.
Working knowledge of safety codes and regulations as they relate to construction sites.
Effective organizational skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in dealing with others.
Ability to run multiple projects concurrently.
Understanding of access control software.
Understanding of IP video systems.
Working knowledge of door hardware (Locks, electronic hardware, etc.).
Working knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code
Familiarity with Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. Demonstrated computer skills including:
Working knowledge of project management software.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, and Excel for documentation and spreadsheet preparation, updating, etc.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook for email and calendar use.
Working knowledge of network operations (Vlan's, subnets, MAC addresses).

This position requires the successful candidate maintain a valid Driver's License and a produce a satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
