Position Summary
The Junior Estimator is responsible for evaluating and determining the costs associated with construction projects, from inception to completion. This role involves analyzing project blueprints, specifications, and requirements to develop detailed cost estimates, ensuring budgets are accurate and competitive. The Junior Estimator collaborates with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to gather data, evaluate material, labour, and time requirements, and adjust estimates to meet project needs. Additionally, the Junior Estimator conducts research on market trends, performs risk assessments, and provides recommendations to optimize project cost-efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Project Documentation Review: Review plans and specifications to determine the scope of work, define project requirements, understand design intent, and identify challenging items.
· Quantity Take-offs: Perform electronic quantity take-offs for all materials, labour, equipment, and contractors to complete the project to specifications.
· Bid Preparation: Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
· Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and review bids from suppliers and subcontractors to incorporate into project cost estimates.
· Market Research: Seek out competitive pricing from suppliers and appropriate sub-trades, as needed.
· Budget Development: Assist in developing preliminary and final project budgets, ensuring alignment with the client’s financial objectives.
· Risk Assessment: Identify and analyze project risks, including potential cost overruns or scope changes, and recommend mitigation strategies.
· Collaboration: Work closely with project management, design teams, and clients to ensure estimates meet project needs, budget constraints, and timelines.
· Other ad-hoc duties as assigned by your manager.
Required Education, Knowledge, and Experience
· Degree from Engineering or Business discipline (preferred)
· English, strong business written and verbal proficiency
· Efficient skills in Microsoft Office, and other standard computer business applications
· No previous experience required
