This job posting represents multiple positions within different ministries and at various locations across Ontario. Certain cities may be located in distant or remote areas in Ontario and may not be accessible by public transit. Work Description
You may be required to work on some or all of the following tasks:
- Assist program staff with providing information and support to victims and witnesses of crime in person and over the phone.
- Explain court processes, roles of key players in the criminal justice system, accompany the client to court.
- Provide administrative support to the program. (e.g. assist with receiving, sorting and sending mail, typing letters and reports, assist with answering telephones, arranging appointments and filing documents, assist with opening and closing client files, inputting data etc.)
- Plan, organize, coordinate and manage daily assigned work.
You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July):
- Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).
- Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
- Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
- Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the full duration of your summer employment.

- You apply your verbal, written, listening communication skills and customer service skills to provide information and support to victims and witnesses of crime in person and over the phone
- You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- You apply your verbal communication skills to liaise with crown prosecutors and defence attorneys, court staff and members of the public
- Knowledge of and interest in the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of community agencies and resources to support victims and witnesses of crime
- You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. client files, reports)
- You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
- You apply your analyticial and evaluative skills to assess/analyze requests from clients and provide available options of support while also keeping program staff informed
- You apply your discretion and sensitivity skills when working with confidential information and vulnerable clients
- Ability to deal with stressful situations
- Ability to attend meetings at a courthouse and in the community, as required
