The work will normally be performed on the Night Shifts with Thursday/Friday as off days. The primary work location will be Greenwood Shop, however reporting locations will vary as dictated by work assignments.
What You Will Do
This is a specialized motorized equipment and non-revenue rail vehicle operation involving the safe and efficient operation of rail work cars, flat cars, steel-wheeled snow removal equipment, etc. and includes operating specialized equipment such as cranes, High Rail Excavator, Geismar, Wacker, TRT, tamping car in work mode, etc. safely and efficiently.
The work entails the operation of rail work vehicles for the delivery of tools, materials and equipment to track construction sites, work and subway locations; loading and unloading cargo; pushing and/or pulling non-powered cars and tamping ballast, etc. The work will also involve the performance of daily service checks on the vehicles and work as a Track Maintainer or assisting with a wide variety of manual track constructions duties when a vehicle is not available for operations or required.
The work is performed under the supervision of Track & Structure supervisory staff.
This involves:
Operate various workcar mounted cranes and gantries; ensuring that blocks and outriggers are securely placed as necessary; monitor the load to ensure weight or load is within lifting capacity; move and position loads visually or in response to hand signals;
Couple/uncouple vehicles and ensure that vehicles are properly secured during push/pull operations; lift or pull manual track switches as required;
Ensure all documents, forms, reports are well filled out and submitted to appropriate staff member.
When workcar operation is not needed, operator may assist with Mechanics, Welders or Track Maintainer Class 2 tasks.
Performing related duties as assigned;

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
Require training obtained through the completion of Grade 12 education or its recognized equivalent as determined by the assessment of education credentials by the TTC Operations Training Centre;
Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations;
Must be able to speak clearly in order to exchange information and instructions with the Control Centres and follow proper radio and telephone protocol;
Must be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training;
Must possess a valid Class "G" Province of Ontario Driver's Licence;
Must pass a vision test and established pre-test set by the TTC Operations Training Centre;
Must be able and willing to wear a respirator.
