POSITION SUMMARY
The Estimator is responsible for analyzing costs and preparing estimates for various projects and providing technical and administrative support to project management teams. This role also contributes to the completion of estimates and proposals for projects while identifying risks, opportunities and maintains strategies to win bids.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and prepare estimates from first base principles including full measures of cost and price on construction projects.
- Undertake risk assessment on price, supply, demand, and length of project.
- Liaise with programmers on project planning.
- Establish and maintain commercial relationship with Subcontractors and Consultants
- Provide input on construction project methodologies.
- Review and critically assess external quantity surveyor's estimates.
- Critically examine and review estimates prepared by other team members within the work group.
- Provide expert cost planning and estimating advice and guidance to other team members within the work group.
- Keep up to date with new construction materials, methodologies rules and regulations.
- Maintain a database of cost information including but not limited to cost feedback from bids.
- Present tender estimate to credit committee prior to submission
- Co-ordinate with key Multiplex personnel on preparation of all tenders for the purpose of winning work
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the construction industry working for a general contracting construction company
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Building, Engineering, Construction, or Quantity Surveying
- Professional Membership in CIQS strongly preferred
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of quantity surveying and estimating techniques as it relates to construction.
- Must possess excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong financial acumen
- Proven track record of work winning valued at $100M+
- Solid understanding of specifications, construction methods and procedures
- Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, Sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
