Job Summary
Performs housekeeping and cleaning activities within established guidelines. Shift would be Sunday to Thursday from 10pm to 4pm.
Responsibilities
- Follow cleaning schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) as outlined for housekeeping department
- Clean assigned areas, furnishings, fixtures according to established housekeeping procedures
- Clean floors, dry mops, wet mops, sweeps, disinfects where and when necessary. Perform emergency housekeeping when accidents occur
- Clean movable and stationary furnishings and fixtures, dusts, spot cleans or washes, disinfects when necessary, polishes where required, changes slip covers, scarves, doilies, etc. when soiled. Cleans ledges, shelves, vents, etc
- Empty and clean ashtrays. Empties, cleans and relines waste baskets. Straightens or rearranges furniture as directed. Inspects furnishings for wear and defects and reports to supervisor
- Clean bathrooms (resident, private, public and staff). Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors and walls as directed. Washes windows and mirrors. Replenishes bathroom supplies
- Spot clean between washings, wash, disinfect when necessary. Walls and ceilings and ceiling fixtures are cleaned as scheduled
- Clean all horizontal surfaces daily or as required, removing dust, dirt or greasy film using disinfectants where necessary
- Perform cleaning duties according to established procedures in resident rooms when resident has been discharged. Prepare room for new occupant
- Remove garbage and disposes
- Report observations to supervisor concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctions
- Adhere to policy and procedures including quality assurance, safety, and infection control
- Wash, fold, iron and deliver laundry as required
- Demonstrate personal attributes and communication skills that foster customer satisfaction at all times
- Attend in-service meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Good communication skills especially with seniors
- Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning would be an asset
Physical Demands
- Considerable lifting, stretching, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, standing, walking and bending.
- Lifting alone, maximum of 40 lbs (5-25 lbs usual). Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100-120 lbs usual).
- Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as carts, trolleys, maximum 100 lbs (20-50 lbs usual).
- Walking, with possibility some upstairs walking, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual).
- Standing for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Carrie and transport objects of various sizes, to a maximum of 25 lbs (5-15 lbs usual).
Working Condition
- Expose to chemicals, body waste, garbage and dust.
