Job Description
JOB TITLE: CAD Operator/Space Project Co-Op Student
DEPARTMENT: FM-PRO (Facilities Management – Planning, Redevelopment & Operations) and Research Facilities
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario (Downtown)
REPORTS UP TO: Manager, Space Operations – Planning & Integration, FM-PRO
STATUS: Temporary Full-Time (Student Placement, 4 months, Jan - Apr 2025)

THE ROLE: The CAD Operator/Space Project Co-Op Student will have the opportunity to learn about how space planning and project management takes place in dynamic research and hospital environments within the healthcare industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to the FM-PRO department on infrastructure-related projects (includes space planning, furniture and equipment layouts, feasibility initiatives, client consultations, site evaluations, spatial data extraction, etc.)
- New Project Opportunities (includes creating various types of spatial report packages such as fire and life safety, operations and security, and biosafety containment allocations.)
- Maintain and improve upon existing standards and processes within the Department (includes organizing department’s CAD drawings, updating floor plans to reflect spatial changes, integrating as-built drawings from new construction and renovation projects into the master database, etc.)
- Participate in physical walkthroughs and audits of research and hospital spaces.

The FM-PRO Research department provides support to the 650 research teams and manages almost 1M SQFT of research space. FM-PRO Research Facilities has over 100 years of combined hands-on laboratory experience, creating and maintaining safe and compliant environments to enable the success of laboratories. Established in 1998, FM-PRO Research Facilities is a specialized team that supports creation and implementation of safety programs, space planning and management, integration of research equipment, research procurement, and corporate grant administration. UHN is the only research hospital in Canada that has such a highly specialized and dedicated team. We have extensive experience in the following space types: wet laboratories and dry/office environments; basic, applied and clinical research; teaching and simulation environments; facilities with complex infrastructure utilizing cutting edge technology. We incorporate all functional and regulatory requirements to ensure quality, safety and compliance for all of our clients' laboratory operations.
Qualifications
- Must include cover letter with application
- Proficient in computer software tools such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator and InDesign)
- Highly organized
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good understanding of project management
