Junior Estimator (Co-Op)- Winter 2025
This is an excellent introductory opportunity for Post-Secondary school students in a Co-Op program. Being part of the SKYGRiD Co-Op experience is all about hands- on learning, mentoring by professionals and working as an active member of a project team. The individual will report directly to the Director of Estimating but must be able to prioritize time in accordance with deliverables and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment, and subcontracts for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
• Complete full quantity take-offs for all aspects of each new project as per contract specification.
• Advise on tendering procedures, examine, and analyze tenders and recommend tender awards.
• Financial assessment of contract variations.
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Good quality and accurate record keeping.
• Cost value procurement of materials, equipment and labour and current market value assessment.
• Maintain good relationships and create new ones with trades, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
Required Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
• Must be currently enrolled in a Canadian Post- Secondary institution with a focus in Construction Management, or relevant.
• Strong and effective communication, writing, and computer skills are essential.
• Student should have a sense of urgency.
• Good organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.
• Strong initiative.
• Strong ability to use MS Office programs. Ability to use Bluebeam.
• Being familiar with AutoCAD architecture & Revit, is a benefit but not necessary.
• It is essential that the applicant can understand engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and construction practices and use this knowledge efficiently on a day to day basis as projects and budget preparations progress.
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle would be beneficial.
