About the Role:
This position will handle the day-to-day importing, exporting and customs related activities of BorderWorx Logistics Inc. This includes but is not limited to updating and administering compliance policies, analyzing, and approving products for classification and country of origin marking and labeling, monitoring, and reviewing documentation, record keeping, annual reconciliation and duty assist evaluation.
The incumbent will also be asked to work on the release and accounting of all imports and exports done on behalf of the company’s clients. This will ensure that transactions are processed in a timely and cost-effective manner with regard for compliance with customs rules and regulations as well as with BorderWorx policies and procedures.
Preparation and coordination of export documentation and shipment release for all Canadian shipping locations is also an integral part of this position.
- Co-ordinates and verifies accuracy of documentation from international vendors to facilitate preparation of customs import transaction.
- Prepares and submits transactions for release to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Ottawa.
- Communicates with CBSA and CBP, Border Agents and Transportation providers to coordinate & expedite release of both import and export transactions.
- Provides internal customers with status of imported shipments.
- Prepares documentation required to facilitate shipment from all Canadian facilities to export customers and plants, ensuring that Canadian export regulations and specific requirements of the importing country are met.
- Communicates with all source suppliers and third-party vendors to obtain required import documentation.
- Research and determine the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification, tariff treatments and country of origins for new and existing part numbers. Review with the Centre of Excellence (COE) to ensure compliance with Canada customs and US Customs.
- Create and maintain material numbers, vendors and importers on the company database.
- Update and transmit manifests to Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and US Customs (CBP) to ensure that the company is accounting for shipments within the correct documentation.
- Investigate and amend rejected transactions and retransmit to CBSA and CBP.
- Adjustments and refunds as required.
- Performs audits of import and export customs broker invoices and ensures that payment is processed with regard to minimization of brokerage expenses.
- Handles requests from CBSA and CBP for additional documentation/information on transactions, ensuring that responses are complete and timely.
- Expedite and co-ordination of international shipments.
- Provides support to the clients to facilitate classification for establishment of import duty levels on new products.
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- 1 year of experience in an Import/Export and Transportation related capacity
- Knowledge of Canadian and US Customs regulations
- E-Manifest experience preferred
- CCS designation preferred or working towards
Preferred qualifications:
- Community College certificate in International Trade Practices
- CCS Designation or CTCS Designation
