Job Description
The Respiratory Therapy Department (RTD) supports the delivery of evidence-based cardio-respiratory interventions. The Respiratory Technician Assistant is an integral member of the RTD whoperforms functional testing, services and repairs, orders and stocks Respiratory Therapy equipment. The principal responsibilities include: performing routine equipment assembly; performing routine preventative and corrective maintenance/repair functions; keeping track of inventory on hand; maintaining adequate stock of respiratory supplies/equipment; performing transportation functions; cleaning/processing respiratory equipment; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Reporting to a Clinical Manager, the ideal candidate will work with the RTD and inter-professional teams in the ICU, Emergency, Medicine Units, Labor and Delivery, NICU, MDRD and Biomedical Engineering departments to support practices aimed to improve program of care. They will work both autonomously and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals holding influence over three main domains: safe patient care, excellence in practice and the healthcare system.

- Previous experience in Respiratory Therapy Department/Program an asset
Position Summary
- Maintains concise, accurate documentation of all equipment in regards to performance checks, planned maintenance, problems and service.
- Liaises with Biomedical Engineering regarding equipment requiring servicing.
- Assists in inventory control of Department and Programs’ equipment.
- Places purchase requisitions for equipment and supplies required in department and maintains these records.
- Assists with medical gas pipeline shutdowns (in collaboration with THP engineering)
- Performing cylinder and bulk gasses responsibilities as required
- Prepare and check intubation tray supplies as required
- Prepare and check Code Blue carts as required
- Performs transportation functions (e.g. responds to requests for supplies and equipment, collects and prepares respiratory equipment for assembly; delivers assembled equipment to appropriate location, and collects equipment as required and assists with delivery of equipment to/from THP receiving, stores, medical engineering and MDRD
- Assists in the evaluation of Respiratory Therapy equipment.
Assists with the assembly of respiratory equipment such as critical care ventilators, AIRVO, heated humidity set-ups and other related equipment following established guidelines post re-processing.
- Assists with the cleaning and re-processing of RTD associated equipment.
- Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required including: participating in teaching students; participating in continuing education activities, data collection etc.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Clinical Manager
