Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Training Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing training programs that enhance employee skills and knowledge. This role requires a strong understanding of program management and training development, as well as the ability to effectively educate employees in various formats, including classroom settings and online platforms. The Training Specialist will also play a crucial role in employee relations, ensuring that all training initiatives align with organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- To instruct new employees in site safety, Material Handling Equipment, systems (including Warehouse management system), and quality training
- To refresh existing employees in site safety requirements. Material Handling, systems (including Warehouse management system), and quality training through a continuous training schedule
- To train employees in other areas as required
- To assist with auditing new and existing employees on current processes (including H&S, SQF, inventory) and issuing audit reports and recommendations for improvement
- To ensure proper documentation and record keeping of all site training
- Comply with site safety requirements and Occupational Health & Safety Act and relevant legislation at all times.
- Look for opportunities to continuously improve the site’s operational excellence and Health and Safety performance and programs and to reduce accidents/incidents, including wellness and ergonomics programs
- Lead and execute communications strategies to heighten operational expertise and Health and Safety awareness at all levels (including reports, statistical information, goals, performance results, etc)
- Understand work processes and operational flow, as it pertains to Health and Safety,, SQF, Warehouse Operations, and Yard Operations.
- To assist and work within the warehouse operation when training duties are not required
- Perform other tasks as required in the absence of primary training duties
- Advise management of health and safety concerns
Health and Safety:
- Understands and works in compliance with the Environmental and Health/Safety management systems, policies, rules, and guidelines.
- Observe standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Takes every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker. Specific accountabilities for safety include, but are not limited to performing regular workplace inspections, conducting/participating in safety talks, employee meetings, actively participating in accident/incident investigations, training new employees, identifying and correcting unsafe acts or conditions, identify, correct or commend health and safety performance and conducting performance appraisals for workers’ safety performance
Job Specifications—Skills and Competencies:
- Must be available to work on different shifts and travel to various Brimich locations to conduct required training
- Must be willing to commit to this role for a minimum of a 12-month tenure
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and solid instructional, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to apply effective adult learning techniques
- Ability to work well independently and within a team environment
- Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret Material Handling Equipment legislation, Health & Safety standards, Warehouse management practices, and other applicable legislation
- Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and high accuracy in data entry
- A positive, proactive attitude toward problem solving and tackling challenges
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and engage with employees at all levels
- Expected to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance
- Fully capable of working in varying temperatures. Temperatures may range anywhere from 2° to 15°C in most Brimich Warehouses. Brimich Cold Storage buildings may range from 0° to -30°C.
Qualifications
- A minimum 5 years Material Handling Equipment experience is required
- Specific experience operating Counterbalance, Reach, Order Picker and Pallet truck would be an asset
- Prior experience in a trainer role considered an asset.
- Experience with wireless RF systems including voice picking considered an asset.
- Experience with preferred picking practice is an asset.
- Experience working in Cold storage considered an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) considered an asset.
- Experience in using a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Certified MHE trainer (Train the Trainer) or willing to complete.
