The
Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming (igaming, casino, lottery, and charitable gaming), horse racing, and cannabis sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
The AGCO is looking for a
Licensing Agent to provide in-person support for horse racing–related licensing functions at the AGCO’s Racetrack Licensing Office in Toronto, Ontario. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, and horse racing sectors and cannabis retail in Ontario in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
Reporting to the Manager of Horse Racing Eligibility, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Ensuring participants are properly licensed before race day.
- Providing in-person support to horsepersons at the racetrack and assisting them in using AGCO’s online service portal to create accounts and submit licensing applications.
- Running Race Day reports and assisting Racing Officials, Commission Veterinarians and/or other on-site AGCO personnel as required.
- Communicating with applicants and licensees by telephone and in writing.
- Handling financial transactions including processing debit and credit card payments on a Point-of-Sale system.
- Reviewing licence applications in the online service portal.
Schedule
- Initial training will be provided remotely before the Licensing Agent is required on-site.
- In-office shifts are 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the occasional Wednesday as required. For specifics, please see the RaceDayCalendar.
- Additional hours may be required working remotely from home to prepare for race days.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Strong computer skills with an aptitude for quickly learning new systems and processes.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills with a demonstrated attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated capability to exercise sound judgement and make complex decisions under pressure.
- The ability to ensure that discretion and confidentiality are maintained when dealing with client files.
- Good knowledge of basic accounting or related experience.
- General knowledge of the Horse Racing Licence Act, 2015 and its regulation.
- Good knowledge of the AGCO’s Rules of Racing.
- Knowledge of safety around horses and understanding of the operational procedures of the racetracks.
- The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
