Job Summary
Our insurance defence firm is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated lawyer to manage Tort and accident benefit files, including priority, loss transfer, subrogation and coverage matters. In this role, you will be required to exercise strong critical thinking and analysis, particularly when reviewing legal documents, assessing case strategies, and making decisions that affect the outcome of complex matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated lawyer to contribute to an insurance law boutique practice while working alongside a team of seasoned professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage carriage of Tort and accident benefit files, ensuring timely progression and resolution.
- Follow protocols for regular, clear, and timely communication/reporting with clients, keeping them updated on case developments
- Handle all matters with attention to detail
- Review and analyze productions, clerks’ summaries of productions and legal documents, and report on findings
- Attend examinations for discovery, mediations, Licence Appeal Tribunal Proceedings, and other litigation events
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and maintain accurate case records.
Qualifications
- LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized law school
- Membership in good standing with the LSO
- Minimum 1 of experience as lawyer in personal injury, either plaintiff or defence, including both Tort and accident benefits work
- Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities to assess legal issues and make informed decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational and client management skills
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on both individual and team success
- Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive information
