THE OPPORTUNITY
RAM Iron & Metal is looking for a talented and driven Scrap Material Handler join our Team. The Scrap Material Handler, under the direction of the Supervisor, Ferrous / Lead, Operations will be responsible operating heavy equipment machinery in a safe and effective manner.

OVERVIEW
The successful candidate must be comfortable operating our various Scrap Material Handlers such as the Liebherr excavator with a grapple and magnet. They are expected to have the ability to learn and assist in several aspects of our daily operations such as unloading materials from our customer and company vehicles, sorting the material for processing, and loading materials for shipment. The Scrap Material Handler may also feed materials to our bailer, which consists of organizing materials, and verifying quality.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITES
- Operate heavy equipment scrap handlers in a safe and effective manner.
- Operate a crane with the grapple/magnet attachment.
- Conduct a daily pre and post inspection of equipment and record the results.
- Responsible for loading, offloading company, and customers’ vehicles.
- Use hand signal, and CB radio to communicate amongst staff as appropriate.
- Responsible for sorting scrap materials into specific grades once offloaded from trucks.
- Verify quality of ferrous and non-ferrous materials and feeding it into the bailer.
- Downsizing material using the grapple.
- Move material as appropriate throughout the yard, this can include stocking bundles and materials as appropriate.
- Responsible for organizing stockpiles of material within yard.
- Clean roadway and paths as appropriate using magnet device.
- Other duties as required, not limited to responsibilities listing above.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum two (2 years) of experience operating the crane with the grapple/magnet attachment.
- Knowledge of metals is an asset.
- Heavy Equipment Operator certificate is an asset.
- Experience working in a recycling metal is an asset.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The working environment is busy and fast paced, with regular and ongoing interactions with colleagues, management, and the public at large. There may be frequent interruptions, and from time to time be noisy. The employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift up to and including 50lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, walking up/down stairs, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items is occasionally required.
