About The Role
We are seeking a
Data Scientist I with a focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) to join our team. This role is hybrid with candidates required to be based in Calgary or Vancouver. This person will collaborate with our data science team to develop, implement, and optimize cutting-edge NLP models. The individual will be responsible for assisting in the design and development of predictive models and algorithms to solve business problems. The candidate should have strong analytical skills and a keen interest in exploring and interpreting complex datasets. Additionally, business acumen and the eagerness to understand stakeholders needs and provide technical solutions for them is an asset.
What You'll Do Here
- Work closely with the Data Science, DevOps, and Dev teams to implement and deploy ML models with focus on NLP.
- Understand specific businesses challenges and address them using predictive or analytical techniques.
- Assist in the design and development of complex analytical projects.
- Participate in the cleaning, preparation, and analysis of large datasets.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineers, DevOps/MLOps, Business Stakeholders, Data Scientists, and other stakeholders to implement models and monitor outcomes.
- Provide ongoing tracking and monitoring of performance of decision systems and statistical models.
- Use machine learning and analytical techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems.
What You Bring To The Table
- Bachelor's degree (preferred Master's degree) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in data analysis or a related field.
- Strong experience using Python for data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with AWS tools such as Sagemaker and S3.
- Familiarity with NLP techniques and tools.
- Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL and experience with Snowflake.
- Experience with machine learning algorithms and concepts.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI.
- Strong problem-solving skills, data analysis skills, and a passion for big data.
- Excellent communication, time management, work organization and presentation skills.
- Preferred but not required general knowledge of the insurance sector and relevant experience in the area would be an asset.
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

Salary of the successful candidate will typically be positioned between the following range, taking into consideration a number of factors including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location and internal equity:
