Now is the time to augment your practice with a long term care panel! Multiple long term care (LTC) homes have exciting opportunities for you to provide the challenging, diverse, and impactful work of caring for the frail elderly.
Why long term care?
- Specialized mental health population; expand on your mental health skillset and apply your expertise to a LTC setting
- You will become part of a supportive physician community
- Each care home works closely with an interdisciplinary care team to provide holistic resident-centered care
- You have the opportunity to join the Long Term Care Initiative (LTCI) which includes the following:
- Paid mentorship opportunities
- Participation in a self-scheduling, paid, after-hours care system (commitment of only one week of coverage per quarter; coverage is shared amongst the Vancouver LTCI practitioners)
- Opportunities for paid participation in long term care-specific events
- Opportunities to participate in LTC quality improvement projects and CME
- You can develop and grow your skills in providing care for the frail elderly and transfer these skills to your work in community and hospital settings
- Allows for flexibility in your schedule – supplement other family practice work with a LTC panel to add variety to your workday. You can work with the care home leadership to set the size of your panel and your availability for providing care
- Caring for the frail elderly is both challenging and incredibly rewarding
Why now?
- There are a number of vacancies for long term care physicians and therefore you will have greater opportunity to select the specific care home or area you would like to work in
- With an ageing population, care of the frail elderly will become increasingly important in both community and long term care settings
