At Humber River Health, the Infection Prevention and Control team prevent and address potential infections risks in compliance with Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) requirements.
We are currently seeking a Clinical Coordinator- Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) to work for our Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) department.

Duration (if contract): Ending July 31, 2025
Hours of Work: Primarily days - Monday to Friday with flexibility to meet needs of the department (schedules may change based on operational needs).

Position Responsibilities:
- To prevent and address potential infection risks in compliance with Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) requirements
- To develop, implement, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate IPAC programs, and monitor performance of staff, physicians, and management team implementing IPAC plan
- Provide expertise for 24/7 on-call Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) consultation services and direction in infection prevention, control, and epidemiology
- Valid driver's license required to provide coverage at multiple sites
- Develop and implement IPAC policies and processes; implement new standards, directives, and policies, including additional precautions for infectious patients
- Develop formal and informal educational programs and materials for staff, physicians, volunteers, contractors in consultation with Director to coordinate patient and clinical staff education, and monitor and address staff compliance; evaluate educational program effectiveness in achieving desired change or standards compliance; address educational gaps
- Organize data collection, review patient data and statistics, and conduct infectious disease risk assessments to develop risk mitigation plans
- Work with HR to interpret and apply collective agreement requirements; assist Managers and HR to address issues of noncompliance; provide investigative follow-up
- Provide direction relating to staffing patterns and assignments regarding patients with additional precautions for infectious patients and for the facility operations during outbreaks, including when to recommend unit closures until outbreaks are resolved in collaboration with HR Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) group
- Assist with the implementation of new products (e.g. hygiene bags, gloves, masks)
- Recommend staffing patterns based on patient flow, condition, and incident location
- In an outbreak situation, has authority to close a unit and reassign resources in collaboration with Public Health
Qualifications:
- Graduate or Advanced Degree in Epidemiology, Medicine or Microbiology
- Current registration and membership in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required
- Membership with Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) chapter membership in good standing (Greater Toronto Area) required
- Completion of courses in infection control and epidemiology required
- Three(3) years’ Infection Control supervisory experience in an acute care hospital
- Two (2) years’ Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) experience
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with Adult education
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear expectations and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated experience with Epidemiology, Statistical Analysis, Data Processing and Financial vaccination protocols in a unionized environment
- Excellent independence, interpersonal, problem solving, customer service, critical thinking, tact and diplomacy skills required
