Perkins&Will Ontario is seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about sustainable design to join its Sustainability Advisory Services team. This position will be responsible for providing sustainability assessment of a wide range of project opportunities that may relate to water, energy, and carbon analysis; material health research; and trends on occupant health and well-being. The candidate will also support project teams in the delivery of third-party rating systems such as LEED, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard, WELL, Fitwel, and Passive House.
Example day-to-day engagements:
- Liaise with internal architectural, interiors, and urban design project teams in undertaking targeted sustainable building performance calculations and product research.
- Liaise with external consultants to establish project strategies, and coordinate efforts towards documentation for certification.
- Support project managers on a variety of projects including LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Passive House coordination and documentation, and green building strategies.
- Conduct green product research to verify the health and carbon performance claims made by product manufacturers.
- Be responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting on trends, data, programs, and policies within key service sectors or as required to support project deliverables.
- Prepare technical content for sustainable design presentations, reports, and other deliverables.
- Contribute to the knowledge and professional development of employees in the group, providing mentorship as required, such as LEED credential maintenance program.
- Engage with external industry organizations to advance sustainability initiatives and sharing of ideas.
- Contribute to internal initiatives.
- Delivery of best-in-class sustainability and high-performance building services.
- Provide technical expertise to both internal and external teams.
- Develop clear and concise written reports that convey technical information, understanding of the client’s needs and objectives and recommendations to meet these objectives
- Collaborate with and lead design teams to integrate and achieve high-performance and sustainable buildings objectives
- Continuously grow and provide technical support and guidance on sustainability related concepts, strategies and design, such as site related issues, stormwater management, rainwater/greywater harvesting, water use reduction, envelope thermal performance, high efficiency building system, renewable systems, waste management, material selection, thermal comfort, ventilation and indoor air quality, daylighting, health and wellness, etc.
- Manage the delivery of a broad range of sustainability and analysis services required for the project (energy modeling, life cycle assessment, resilience, etc.)
- Facilitate, participate and promote an integrated design process
- Manage multiple projects to deliver a quality service on time, and on budget
- Interest in corporate sustainability reporting and life-cycle assessments
- Innovation, new initiatives, and creative ideas always welcomed.
Ideal Skillset:
- Hold a degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Interior Design, Engineering or a related field to sustainable building design
- LEED AP with specialty with BD+C or ID+C preferred, in good standing.
- WELL and Fitwel credential preferred, however can be obtained within 3-6 months after hire.
- Familiarity with the US and Canadian LEED Green Building Rating Systems, Living Building Challenge, Passive House, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard, and other sustainable design rating systems
- Familiarity with project specifications, ability to understand architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural drawings.
- Familiarity with a range of software tools and programs such as LCA tools (i.e., Tally, Athena EIE, EC3), Rhino, Grasshopper, and/or others to support performance modeling and/or computational design assistance.
- High proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and familiarity with Revit is desirable.
- Ability to think critically and strategically and be able to conduct self-directed research and analysis with limited degree of supervision.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
- Ability to work on multiple projects, and prioritize and plan work.
- Have a passion for sustainability and design excellence.
- Proven experience working with and managing the interaction between both internal and external design teams.
- Understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Desire to learn continuously, work more effectively, and enhance technical and professional skills
