The Lunch Lady is a celebrated Vietnamese restaurant known for bringing the vibrant flavors of Saigon street food to Vancouver. With a loyal customer base and a dynamic dining experience, we are proud to have earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition for three consecutive years. As we expand our reach to Toronto, we are looking for passionate and experienced team members to uphold our high standards of food, service, and guest experience in both our Vancouver and Toronto locations.
Position Overview
We are hiring a Chef de Partie / Sous Chef to join our team in both Vancouver and Toronto locations. As a Chef de Partie or Sous Chef, you will play a key role in overseeing the daily kitchen operations, leading your team, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, consistent dishes. You will take initiative in menu development, handle inventory, and support kitchen operations, all while maintaining the highest standards for food safety and cleanliness. This role also requires strong leadership, the ability to mentor and train junior staff, and the initiative to improve kitchen efficiency and culinary offerings.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food for your assigned station, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Take part in menu development, recipe creation, and innovation, contributing ideas for seasonal or special offerings.
- Manage inventory for your station, ensuring proper stock levels and quality control.
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior kitchen staff, helping them develop their skills and ensure smooth service.
- Ensure all kitchen operations meet food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Chef and kitchen team to improve operational efficiency and food quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, following all food safety regulations.
- Handle customer inquiries and feedback regarding food suggestions, dietary restrictions, and allergies.
- Assist with other kitchen duties as needed, including planning, ordering, and staff scheduling.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in a high-volume kitchen, with a focus on quality and consistency.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring kitchen staff.
- Strong knowledge of various cuisines, with a particular passion for Vietnamese or Southeast Asian food.
- Ability to create and contribute to menu development, including recipe testing and refinement.
- Solid knife skills, attention to detail, and high standards of food preparation and presentation.
- A valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate is required; Red Seal certification is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to lift up to 44 pounds and stand for extended periods.
