Short Description:
Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services (AAMHCS) is a Community Health Centre that aims to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. We do this by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. The Centre envisions a future in which diverse individuals, families and communities can achieve health with dignity.
The Family Resource Program Worker supports the healthy growth and development of children, their families and child care providers by facilitating EarlyON drop-in programs for children 0-6 years old. Using commonly accepted Family Support Principles, the Worker will plan and facilitate programs for children and parents, and other programming that promotes family well-being and strengthens families. The position supervises and liaises with volunteers, students and occasionally purchased service providers and facilitates all family resource programs – existing and future - including but not limited to Holiday Hamper and Healthy Child Screening and other relevant projects or services that may be implemented. This position works closely with the current Family Resource Program Worker.
Responsibilities:
Service Delivery – Care, Support and Programming
- Operates regularly scheduled programming and resources consistent with effective practices; high-quality, play-based, developmentally appropriate and encourage positive interactions; apply equity lens in all resources and services
- Maintains program facilities, equipment and resources that are safe and accessible
Health Promotion and Education
- Develops, delivers and provides strength-based health information and resources to families that address strengths, challenges, needs and risks for individuals and groups
- Assesses and assists families to identify the developmental strengths and needs of their children
- Develops, delivers group educational sessions, playgroups and workshops on topics related to family functioning that increase child well being and positive parent/child interactions
- Provides support to assist parents/caregivers to establish and maintain positive relationships with school staff and understand how the school system functions
- Identification of appropriate external resources that can enhance group sessions
Access and Engagement
- Identify parenting support needs in the community Works with parents and caregivers to strengthen parenting skills and healthy family dynamics
- Link and refer families to local resources, services and partners for additional care and support with problem solving and issues related to healthy family functioning, including to children’s developmental, mental health services, and parenting programs
- Facilitates accessible skill building workshops, provide support and feedback to community parents and caregivers related to community health issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline and guidance, and behaviour management
Team and Agency Participation
- Participates in team and agency-wide meetings, events and community outreach appropriately including registering, monitoring and maintain data and statistics and evaluation
Skills and Qualifications:
Required
- Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Education or a combination of relevant education and work experience
- Two years’ experience working in early childhood or family support sector with vulnerable families and multicultural communities
- Certification and/or registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario
- Able to work flexible weekday schedule, including some evenings and weekends
Preferred
- Experience working within a community development strengths-based framework and child-centered, play-based learning framework
- Strong knowledge of family support principles and local family resources
- Demonstrated experience working with persons from diverse cultural, ethnic, socio-economic backgrounds; understanding of issues facing culturally diverse, low-income families and isolated parents
- Excellent computer skills, including the use of MS Publisher, PowerPoint, and social media tools
- Experience and training in adult group facilitation, program development and implementation for parents and children

- Ability to speak in a language of one of the priority groups we serve in East Toronto
