The Senior Communications Specialist is integral to the success of the Office of the CEO team and to CAAT’s guiding mission and growth strategy.
Reporting to the Manager, CEO Communications, as the Senior Communications Specialist, CEO Communications, you will be responsible for engaging with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to support the Office of the CEO’s communications priorities. This position requires exceptional writing, copyediting, and verbal skills to highlight the value of modern DB pension plans, the strategic vision of the CEO and Plan Manager, and CAAT’s purpose to improve the retirement outcomes of Canadians. You will lead and contribute to a broad range of communications, marketing, and policy initiatives as an expert representative of the Office of the CEO.
We are looking for someone with:
- 5+ years of progressive strategic communications experience, with expertise in senior stakeholder relationship management, supporting senior leadership through presentation development, speechwriting, thought leadership/long-form articles, and media relations.
- Extensive experience in executive communications and senior stakeholder relations, including a proven track record of working closely with senior executive leadership and proactively collaborating with internal teams to strategically align communications with organizational goals and drive key business outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of executive communications, including public relations, government relations, and strategic communications.
- Proven experience in business writing and editing, including creating strategic key messages, executive briefing documents, press releases, articles, presentations, speeches, and other materials tailored for a B2B audience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple communications initiatives, events, speaking engagements, and media activities in a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Certification in public relations or a related field would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- A proven track record of effective communication and collaboration, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and quality of messaging across diverse stakeholder groups, including members, participating employers, prospects, strategic business partners, board members, and more, while maintaining a poised and tactful approach on confidential projects.
- Enthusiasm, resilience, and adaptability to manage unforeseen project changes and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong program management skills to manage multiple priorities and deliverables effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail in all forms of communication, ensuring clarity and accuracy in both written and verbal messaging.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of seniority and act as a representative of the Office of the CEO to drive business objectives.
Once here you will:
- Prepare polished key communications consistent with the voice of the CEO, including articles, presentations, key messages, media communiqués, social media copy, and other messaging for internal and external audiences.
- Ideate, plan, develop, execute and monitor short and long-term engagement initiatives to proactively build and nurture stakeholder relationships managed by the Office of the CEO. Collaborate with the CEO’s office, internal departments and external agencies as required to develop stakeholder campaigns and events, such as the annual virtual conference, leadership roadshows, governance and committee meetings, town halls, and more ensuring seamless coordination and impact.
- Exercise a high level of judgment and discretion with material that is frequently confidential in nature to assess business requirements, reputational risks, and communication needs.
- Ensure alignment and consistency of all internal and external CEO communications as business and strategic priorities evolve.
- Drive the development of communication processes, protocols, and measurement frameworks, applying a data-driven approach to assess impact and effectiveness.
- Support the development of website content, including copywriting, web design, and other deliverables as needed.
- Ensure team members are kept apprised of project deliverables and status, obtain input from subject-matter experts, and secure required approvals to deliver.
- Facilitate timely and efficient delivery of accurate information to internal and external stakeholders and provide recommendations on communication approach and content.
