Gannett Fleming Canada is currently looking for a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team in Toronto.
Position to start early January 2025.
The Health and Safety Coordinator will assist in the management of transportation construction projects in the GTHA.
You must be adaptable, self-motivated, have good organization skills, be able to work both independently as well as in a team environment, and be able to build and maintain strong relationships with both colleagues and external clients through excellent verbal and written communication. The successful candidate will join our growing operations, playing a key role in providing guidance and assistance regarding regulatory compliance requirements and other matters pertaining to health and safety.
As the Health and Safety Advisor you will receive direction from the project team, to assist with monitoring all project related health and safety activities.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the Contractors health and safety management systems
- Prepare reports on health and safety
- Prepare and compiles daily safety observations
- Participate in site safety walk throughs with the Contractors safety team
- Interface with field personnel and support project site work
- Assist with developing and participating in the inspection and audits of the construction site
- Perform job safety analysis, analyzes operation, identifies risks
- Conduct and supports the coordination of incident investigation, including documenting that preventative and corrective actions have been carried out.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of direct experience in occupational health and safety
- Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, or related discipline
- Professional Certifications/Designations recognized in Canada considered an asset
- Experience in heavy civil and tunneling and surface track will be considered an asset
- Experience with a transit agency (e.g. TTC, Metrolinx, Crosslinx) is preferred
- Understanding of worker safety standards and their applications
- Experience with Health & Safety Management systems and deployment of Health & Safety programs to a complex organization, with multiple business operations at multiple sites.
- Experience conducting comprehensive safety audits.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant acts, codes, legislation, and other provincial regulations.
- Site-specific safety plan development and technical review.
- Must be able to provide safety leadership to internal clients and assist in addressing safety issues relating to business needs.
- Ability to build trust and strong personal relationships through proven consistency and leadership.
- Strong and effective communication both written and verbal
- Capable of meeting deadlines and making decisions independently
- Valid driver’s license required; this position requires use of personal vehicle in good working order.
- Flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours.
