Job Summary
Positions in this classification are responsible for assisting buyers with the uploading and maintenance of new products on the UBC Bookstore website. They are expected to work with the buyers to deal with products needs and priorities while resolving all related issues. It is expected that all new products arriving at the store are represented on the website in a timely and immediate fashion while maintaining the professional image of the university.

Work Performed
Bookstore Assistant – Ecommerce duties include:
- Assists buyers with the uploading and maintenance of new products on the UBC Bookstore website, assists with monitoring consumer trends, identifying needs and researching product information
- Receives, logs, processes and organizes lists of new products to be added to the website to ensure all processes are complete.
- Oversees and performs the processes required to prepare products for publishing online including:
- Researching and collecting products
- Deciding if product is to modelled or can be represented on its own
- Photography of products
- Photo editing
- Copy writing of product description
- Mapping and uploading to the website
- Assists with regularly auditing the software and recommends web improvements to the team to both improve the user experience and back end processes.
- Works with the buyers to communicate and resolve issues and prioritize.
- Works with Communications team during rush periods (2 times per year). Answers customer inquiries, relating to online orders.
- Prepares documentation and reports related to uploads to the online store.
- May assist with providing training and guidance and monitoring the work of a small group of employees in lower classifications.
- May provide occasional coverage on the retail floor, and performs other duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Works within well-defined guidelines and procedures, but is expected to exercise some initiative and judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion; new or unusual problems would be referred to supervisor.
Supervision Received
Works under general supervision carrying out responsibilities within established guidelines, procedures and limits; receives detailed instructions on the assignment of new duties or projects; some positions may work independently on certain aspects of projects; refers technical problems and matters involving policy to supervisory staff.

May assist with providing training and guidance and monitoring the work of a small group of employees in lower classifications.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or high school graduation and completion of relevant post-secondary training program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and at least one year experience in retailing in related products. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Basic knowledge of photography and photo editing required. Knowledge of Bookware software system and its database. Proficient in copy writing with attention to detail and consistency. Ability to communicate effectively and to respond in person, on phone and in writing.
