Position:
The Director Strategic Sourcing provides leadership to strategic sourcing functions who administer sourcing strategies and activities while collaborating with Business Units, Third-Party Governance and Accountable Executives. This role leads functional areas that provide procurement’s Strategy and Vision, Program Planning, Supplier Strategy, Strategic Sourcing, Contract Development and Management, and Talent and People Management.
The Director plays a pivotal role in performing the initial risk review and triage of supplier engagement requests submitted through the Procurement Intake process and ensures that appropriate stakeholders are engaged based on the resulting risk profile.
When required, the Director will develop complete and comprehensive strategic sourcing packages for deals that are confidential and/or highly strategic with enterprise-wide impact.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Oversight
Category Management
Develop and execute overall strategy for the lateral category management function including strategic sourcing, contract negotiations and development, contract management, vendor development and performance management
Establish and develop an appropriate operating model and team structure within procurement functions defining category ownership and interface with other Business Units and across procurement functions
Establish the governance model between various procurement functions including program planning, and performance
Strategic Sourcing
Interacts with the Business Units to develop business requirements for RFX / competitive bid processes on highly strategic deals; where appropriate, provides subject matter expertise advisory support on specifications for all deal complexities / dollar values
Leads internal resources and client groups in supporting the development of a sourcing strategy or planning of a sourcing exercise and ensuring alignment with the overall category/deal strategy across Procurement’s entire spend portfolio
Leads and manages the RFx deal team of Procurement resources and internal client groups in preparation of RFX / competitive bid documents and evaluation criteria based on internal customer requirements, available templates, and category/deal expertise for strategic enterprise deals
Manages the evaluation of RFX responses against a set of pre-defined criteria, including management of Business Unit responses for strategic enterprise deals
Collaborates with client groups in recommending and providing decisions on optimal vendors that best meet the evaluation criteria and objectives of the business
Provides ongoing coaching and oversight on the execution of all deals managed by the Strategic Sourcing team
Manages the resolution of complex issues with suppliers and internal Business Units
Contract Development
Provides advice to the Business Units and coaches the Strategic Sourcing Team on contract management activities and embeds leading industry practices
Coaches Business Units contract owners and the Strategic Sourcing Team to drive performance and compliance of contracts
Leads the interactions between vendor and client groups to draft, negotiate and finalize contract based on the sourcing event outcomes for complex strategic enterprise deals
Collaborates with Business Units in seeking proactive resolution of contractual disputes, manages variations and performance issues
Talent & People Management
Direct management of Senior Strategic Sourcing Managers and interns
Ensures performance objectives are clearly defined and articulated for all team members
Provides timely and comprehensive feedback on staff performance during review periods
Retains quality people; develops a team of professionals by cross-training, coaching, and mentoring
Leads development plan for closing competency gaps and the development and deployment of procurement training to improve capabilities
Requirements:
Experience:
7-10 years of experience in a sourcing or category management role including leadership in governance, process and systems
Expert knowledge on best practices with RFx and competitive bidding process
Advanced negotiation skills and experience with high dollar, high complexity and/or confidential supplier initiatives at the enterprise level
Ability to influence and manage senior to executive level stakeholders using expert negotiation, facilitation, and mediation skills
Knowledge on best practices for establishing data-driven procurement processes leveraging spend and market analytics
Proven ability to manage a team and drive performance
Expert knowledge on using procurement tools, such as SAP Ariba and Ivalua
Excellent communication skills and time-management
Preferred:
7-10 years of experience with sourcing and contract negotiations at a financial services organization
Demonstrated knowledge across the procurement contract lifecycle (planning through to termination)
General understanding of third-party risk and governance
