A Day In The Life
The E-Discovery Services Specialist (EDS Specialist) will primarily execute Fasken’s processes related to the collection, review, and production of electronically stored information [ESI] to assist clients in discharging their documentary discovery obligations in a legal proceeding. Other tasks or project-work may relate to the following categories: information governance, investigations, regulatory responses, transactions, such as due diligence exercises, and training and support activities related to e-discovery software and processes. Relativity / RelativityOne and the Microsoft 365 offerings are the primary software through which the aforementioned tasks are performed.
The EDS Specialist will report to the Director, E-Discovery Services and manage projects and tasks within the regional E-Discovery Services group.
Duties And Responsibilities
Select categories of duties and responsibilities are listed below for informational purposes, but the role will not be limited to the following:
- ESI Management
- Collaborate with legal teams to identify and collect ESI, including the distribution of custodian questionnaires, conducting custodian interviews, instructing clients with respect to self-collection and documenting the collection process
- Proper tracking, labelling, transfer, storage and deletion of ESI
- Execution of counsel and client requests related to ESI
- Vendor Management
- Provision of instructions to vendors, typically related to paper scanning, objective coding, Relativity workspace creation, ESI processing, analytics, production preparation, etc.
- Invoice management, including verification, reporting and storage
- Maintenance of vendor estimates, proposals and pricing information
- Relativity/RelativityOne Workspace Management
- Lifecycle management of workspaces, from set-up to disposition
- ESI and document review oversight from loading to production, including early case assessment, bulk-coding and triage, the preparation and assignment of review and quality assurance workflows, production execution, etc.
- Completion or maintenance of workspace logs, reports, checklists, etc.
- Administrative oversight of external review teams and/or contractors, including team formation, invoice approval, etc.
- Execution of counsel requests, including review preparation, document identification, importing and exporting of data, oversight and/or generation of production exports and schedules to Lists of Documents, etc.
- Training and Process Improvement
- Contributing to process improvement, including the creation or editing of checklists, templates, playbooks, etc.
- Provision of software or process-related training sessions to firm employees, clients, etc.
- Professional and technical development through e-discovery certifications and regularly attending industry webinars, training sessions, etc.
Qualifications
- Preference toward candidates with a Relativity certification and/or e-discovery certification or able to demonstrate technical proficiency with Relativity or another e-discovery platform
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 software, most notably Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams, is required
- Preference toward candidates with a demonstrated understanding of e-discovery and of the litigation process and its requirements
- Preference toward candidates with a paralegal or legal assistant diploma or other educational background coupled with a demonstrated understanding of e-discovery or of the litigation process and its requirements
- Required characteristics include professionalism, meticulousness, an organizing mindset, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently

Compensation
The typical salary range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
