Reporting to the Manager, Student Services of the Oscar Peterson School of Music, the Camp Counsellor provides leadership and delivers excellent music programming to ensure the camp experience at the Oscar Peterson School of Music meets the expectations of participants and the high program values of the department.
This role supports instructors, works with volunteers, and facilitates music programming and activities to provide a positive March Break camp experience for all participants.
Please by advised that this role is a 1-week contract, from March 10 to 14, 2025 with a required evening training session prior to the week of camp.
Camp Preparation
- Attending camp staff training and meetings.
- Planning active programming for breaks during the campers’ schedule Assisting with the planning of special music camp activities.
Volunteers
- Mentoring 1-2 volunteers per camp.
- Providing leadership opportunities for volunteers within specific area of programming. Providing Camp Coordinators with regular feedback on the performance of volunteers.
Camp Operations
- Providing a fun, safe, and meaningful program for children ages 4 – 17 years
- Planning, developing, leading, and evaluating a variety of programs and activities.
- Providing camp information to participants and parents/guardians.
- Assisting with sign-in and sign-out procedures.
- Assisting with the delivery of special camp activities (e.g., concerts, etc.) Taking initiative to support participants’ educational and social experiences throughout the day.
Other
- Performing other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- Experience working with elementary and high school-aged student programming, preferably in an arts or camp setting.
- Experience providing childcare, preferably in a camp setting.
- Experience working in an administrative capacity, preferably in an arts and/or camp organization.
- Post-secondary studies, or planned studies, in music, music education, teaching, social work, or recreation would support success in this role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent customer service skills coupled with a positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Capacity to work under pressure and ability to thrive working in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Interest in music, education, youth programming, and arts administration.
- Experience in volunteer recruitment and management is an asset.
- Basic understanding of music education is an asset.
- This role is a 1-week contract from March 10 to 14, 2025.
- Core working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM; however, this role may occasionally be required to work outside of core hours on a rotational basis.
- A Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
- There will be a required evening training session prior to the week of camp.
