This is an exciting opportunity in the Transition Related Surgery (TRS) Program at Women’s College Hospital.
The TRS Program is the first hospital based publicly funded TRS program in Canada made up of a multi-disciplinary team of health care providers and research scientists. This grant funded project is about the impacts of gender-affirming orchiectomy on sexual wellbeing, body image, post-operative pain and quality of life. We are seeking a motivated individual to recruit patients and collect and analyse data for this study.
Summary of Duties, but not limited to:
- Act as a primary contact person for research participants, conducting telephone, online, or in-person recruitment interviews to collect study participant data including obtaining informed consent
- Completes data entry and quality control ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data collection; may investigate missing or invalid data and prepare data sets; may assist in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and the interpretation of results
- Assist with submission of manuscripts to scientific journals – may involve creating tables, figures, proof reading, preparation of cover letter, coordinating documents to sign, electronic submission
- Prepares detailed notes of all interactions with participants
- Completes review of medical records to collect research data
- Help maintain research files to store, access, and retrieve study data as specified at one or more sites
- May assist team members with preparing materials for proposals, progress reports, presentations, and publications
- Plans, designs and organizes scoring procedures and computer databases for ongoing and new research studies
- Provides assistance with the modification and maintenance of electronic and paper information, filing/ retrieval methods, systems and/or formats
- Maintain regulatory documents
- Perform computer statistical analysis
- Generate response curves, status reports and other statistical reports as required
- Assist in the preparation of submissions to the Research Ethics Board
- Pilot test various web-based research tools
- Provide functional supervision to Research Trainees. Research Assistant Is or Volunteers
- Communicate with Research Coordinator and/or Principal Investigator to provide updates
- Schedule and attend research meetings, including preparing agendas and meeting minutes
- Prioritize and monitor various study deadlines for their own work
- Provide other administrative support as required, including filing, photocopying, acquiring signatures and CV maintenance

Qualifications/Skills:
- Undergraduate Degree in Health Science, Public Health etc.
- Six months to three years of equivalent experience working in a hospital or academic setting
- Experience in a health research setting preferred
- Good understanding of research design and research ethics
- Ability to work somewhat independently with excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Work efficiently under pressure with strong judgement and decision-making skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Mastery of MS Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Access and Word an asset
- Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
- Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
- This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
