The North Shore Women’s Centre is currently looking for a dedicated individual to help build our team in the position of Facilitator for the Girls and Neurodiversity Empowerment Pilot Program. This part-time contract position presents an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-faceted and dynamic organization committed to gender equity and social justice while supporting women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals across our community.
Program Overview
With financial support from the Community Needs Grant offered by the Canadian Women’s Foundation, we are hiring a Facilitator for our Girls and Neurodiversity Empowerment Pilot Program, a free-of-cost empowerment program with social and educational components, for girls ages 9 to 13 who identify as neurodivergent.
Job Description
The Facilitator will play a vital role in developing the program's curriculum, engaging with participants and guardians, guiding sessions, and fostering an inclusive and empowering atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth ages 9-13, neurodivergent youth, a commitment to neuro-affirmative practices and an understanding of the intersectionality between neurodiversity and gender.
To create a program that responds to community needs, The North Shore Women’s Centre has initiated a Community Consultation Phase, led by a Project Coordinator, to identify the community needs that the curriculum could address. The Facilitator will work collaboratively with the Project Coordinator to create the Program Curriculum. The Project Coordinator will provide a Pilot Program Framework to inform the Facilitator of the community research results.
The Facilitator will receive support from a Co-facilitator during the delivery of the Pilot Program sessions.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Before Program
- Develop the Program Curriculum in collaboration with the Project Coordinator
- Develop a Program Activity Plan based on the Program Curriculum with the support of the Project Coordinator.
- Attend meetings with Advisory Committee to provide information and receive feedback about the Program Curriculum
- Manage program recruitment and registrations with participants and guardians
- Manage Pilot Program materials and budget
During Program
- Primary group facilitator of an 11-Week empowerment program designed for participants ages 9-13. The program will run once a week for 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the curriculum and participants needs.
- Organize sessions and keep track of program development Scheduling and liaising with guest workshop facilitators (with the support of Project Coordinator)
- Attend 4 Advisory Committee Meetings to share program updates Act as the main point of contact for participants, their parents and guardians
After Program
- Create a final report after the Program concludes
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Psychology, Education, Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, or a related discipline.
- Training or certification in neurodiversity, youth facilitation, or trauma-informed practices
- Demonstrated experience working with youth ages 9-13
- Experience working with neurodivergent youth and/or lived experience with neurodiversity
- Experience with curriculum development, program design and facilitation is an asset
Knowledge
Knowledge of best practices to support neurodivergent youth in an educational and social environment Understanding of the intersectionality between neurodiversity and gender, especially in youth.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail to identify participants' needs
- Proven ability to lead engaging, interactive sessions that are responsive to participants’ needs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with youth, caregivers and team members.
- Strong organizational abilities to manage session logistics, materials, and documentation effectively.
Compensation
This is a temporary contract position offering $5000 to $6000, depending on experience, in compensation for curriculum and program development, group facilitation, preparations, meetings and reporting. This is not a full time position.
