The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Intermediate Accountant acts as a support to the Finance team, assisting in the day to day accounting responsibilities, maintaining the general ledger, preparing month end schedules, as well as preparation of various reconciliations and financial statements.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures accurate and timely daily reconciliation of transactions between the accounting system and the bank, including credit card and electronic funds transfer payments
- Provides oversight to the Accounting Assistant’s correction of licensing system glitches and errors
- Maintains/updates monthly account schedules which include:
Accounts receivable
b. Prepaid expenses
c. Accounts payable
d. Accrued liabilities
e. Pending application fees
f. Deferred revenue
g. Advanced payment
h. Unclaimed funds
i. Government fee payable
j. Capital assets
- Monthly closeout:
- Prepare month end journal entries
- Reconcile revenue accounts between licensing system and accounting system.
- Prepare month-end financials variance analysis and quarterly forecast
- Prepare monthly department expense report for distribution to department heads
- Updates fixed assets reconciliation monthly, including recording new additions and retirements
- Maintains fixed assets project expense schedule and provides monthly updates to the IT department and other stakeholders
- Assists in the accurate and timely completion of Council’s statutory and adhoc Council reportorial requirements:
- Assists Manager, Finance in preparation of the following tasks:
- Annual external audit (e.g. preparation of working papers, various reconciliations etc.)
- Annual budget (e.g. preparation of departmental templates, etc.)
- Back up for payroll processing
- Other accounting/financial duties as assigned by the Manager, Finance and Director, Finance.
Qualifications & Experience
- 4-year university degree major in accounting
- Preferably CPA students in the later stages of the program
- 2-3 years of experience as an intermediate accountant with experience in bookkeeping, journal entries preparation, monthly and annual reconciliation of asset accounts, preferably with financial statements preparation and analysis, payroll and benefits administration (which includes T4’s and T4a’s reconciliation).Extensive knowledge of accounting principles under Canadian GAAP, internal controls and procedures
- Excellent working experience in various accounting software (e.g.Great Plains, ADP, or similar accounting software)
- Intermediate to Advanced excel and database proficiency. Able to create pivot tables, macros, and strong knowledge of excel formulas
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Enterprise Resource Planning)

Salary Range: $72,385 - 104,053 with a midpoint of $90,481 per annum.
Upon hire, new employees will be placed in a starting salary between the minimum and P50 (midpoint) of the salary range. The P50 of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
