Registered Social Worker (RSW) duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities may include:
Psycho-social Assessments
- Selective assignment of Case Management responsibilities
- Provision of counselling services in a variety of settings (e.g. in person, via telephone, online)
- Extensive documentation and report writing
- Ongoing collaboration with other medical and rehabilitation professionals
- Opportunity to work with adults and children
- Individual, couple, and family counseling
- Career and vocational counselling and assessments
- Contacting and making referrals to other agencies and services
- Planning, coordinating, and implementing support packages to help clients and their families cope in difficult times and overcome dependencies
- Interviewing service users and assessing their current condition, needs, strengths and weaknesses
- Addressing each case as a unit and setting tailored measurable goals
- Providing mental health counseling to individuals, groups or families (if one is a clinical social worker)
- Conducting initial assessments of clients' situation to determine needs and goals
- Researching and advocating for appropriate public assistance resources for clients
Registered Social Worker (RSW) skills and qualifications
A successful Registered Social Worker (RSW) candidate possesses various prerequisite skills and qualifications for the duties of this job. Some of these may include:
- Master’s degree (MSW)
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Experience in a health care setting, and ideally in the community
- Familiarity with relevant legislation (e.g. Health Care Consent Act, Mental Health Act, etc.)
- Superior communication, problem-solving, time management, and documentation skills
- Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to manage a busy and varied caseload
- Preferably Driving with Valid Driver’s License and auto insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
- Completion of a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check within the last six months
- Assess clients and develop a treatment plan/program
- Provide counselling services to address psycho-social issues
- Work as a member of a healthcare team, collaborating with medical, community, and insurance stakeholders
- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources to further support the client’s recovery
- Support client and family through the recovery process
- Provide written reports, detailing client’s recovery and outlining future treatment goals
- Practice is reflective of evidence-based, goal-oriented, and client-centered approach
Directly reports to Manager, Client & Staff Services, you will also need to maintain and complete data collection and reporting as needed to support the team to fulfill the clients’ service goals.
The Registered Social Worker (RSW) will work with variety of partners and client/caregivers and maintain timely and transparent communication with them to create a clear understanding of all timelines, activities, and outcomes.
Qualification
Education: Completion of a master’s degree in social work or equivalent experience, Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work (BSSW) degree offered by a university, college, Indigenous institute, or through a college-university partnership.
Training and Certification: This includes but not limited to courses on communication skills, crisis intervention, behavior management, CPR, and other relevant topics.
Experience: Previous experience in a similar role or a related field (such as healthcare, social services, or community outreach) is required. Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities, mental health challenges, or other special needs, is preferred.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial. Registered Social Worker need to effectively communicate with clients, their families, and other members of the healthcare or support team.
Empathy and Compassion: A genuine desire to help and support individuals in need, along with empathy and compassion, is essential for this role.
Problem-Solving Skills: Registered Social Worker often encounter various challenges and situations that require problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and schedules is often important, as client needs and situations may vary.
Teamwork: Collaboration with other healthcare professionals, social workers, and support staff is common, so the ability to work well in a team is valuable.
Ethical Conduct: Registered Social Workers are often entrusted with sensitive information and the well-being of vulnerable individuals. Maintaining a high standard of ethical conduct is imperative.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
