Kinnect Support Services is a social services partner that provides trained staff support to various organizations in need of relief staff. Our team offers support to agencies that work with children and youth who experience behavioral, social, emotional, physical, and psychiatric difficulties. General Overview
We are seeking highly motivated, qualified Child and Youth Workers and Developmental Support Workers who have experience working with children/youth with complex needs or autism. Staff will be responsible for following the direction of lead staff and supporting students with special needs in a classroom setting. These special needs can include physical and developmental needs, as well as mental health challenges.
Candidates must be available to work 3-5 days per week, up to 7 hours per day, between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm.
Work Responsibilities:
- Implementing and supporting individual behaviour management plans for students in consultation with the classroom teacher.
- Ensure the safety and security of the students in a 1 to 1 capacity and classroom setting.
- Have an understanding of supporting individuals with complex support needs in a sensitive and respectful manner, in all areas of their lives.
- Duties will include supporting students in their daily routines, recreational activities, behavioral and crisis management, and supporting with school work
- Provide a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment that is inclusive of all students
- Record student data and complete reports and documentation as needed.
Qualifications:
You must have:
- University or College degree/diploma in Child and Youth Care or Developmental Support Worker
- Level 1 First Aid / CPR Certificate.
- Must have valid UMAB or CPI training or willingness to obtain
- Must have 1+ year experience working with Autism, Mental Health, Behavioral, and/or Developmental Disabilities, preferably in a school-based setting.
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check within the last 12 months or willingness to obtain
- Demonstrated understanding of the complex issues and challenges facing students with special needs
- Have empathy and strengths-based, relationship-based approach.
- Sensitivity to and ability to work with diverse children and youth from all communities.
- Good communication skills – verbal and written.
- Good administrative and computer skills, able to provide case notes and submit daily logs.
- Able to take initiative and work well as part of a team.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of working with children (e.g., lifting, bending, sitting on the floor)
- Must have a reliable source of transportation
