We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Senior Landscape Architect to join our Toronto team immediately.
Position Overview:
The Senior Landscape Architect is responsible for designing innovative and sustainable landscape solutions, managing complex projects, and fostering strong client relationships. A critical focus of this position is to have an extensive experience in construction administration and built work, ensuring the successful realization of design visions in the field. As a senior member of the team, the Senior Landscape Architect contributes to shaping the built environment while mentoring junior staff, managing large-scale projects, and driving business growth.
What you will be doing:
Design and Project Management
- Lead the design and delivery of complex landscape architecture projects, including urban spaces, public parks, waterfronts, and commercial developments.
- Develop creative, sustainable, and site-specific design solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, and environmental sensitivity.
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure successful project completion.
- Prepare and present design concepts, technical drawings, and 3D models to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Conduct site analysis, including reviewing site conditions, assessing constraints, and identifying opportunities.
Construction Administration and Built Work
- Manage the construction administration process, including reviewing shop drawings, conducting site visits, and addressing on-site challenges to ensure design intent is achieved.
- Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and project teams to resolve construction-related issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Provide expertise in the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and detailed drawings for grading, planting, irrigation, and hardscaping.
- Monitor the quality of construction and ensure compliance with contract documents, schedules, and budgets.
- Advocate for design integrity throughout the construction phase, balancing client objectives with practical considerations.
Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional development.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, planners, and environmental consultants, to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Conduct quality control reviews of design and technical documents to maintain high standards.
Client Relations and Business Development
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring exceptional service and repeat business opportunities.
- Lead and contribute to business development initiatives, including preparing proposals, bids, and presentations.
- Support the strategic growth of the company by identifying new project opportunities and markets.
- Assist with ad hoc requests.
What you bring along:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
- Professional licensure as a Landscape Architect (or eligibility for licensure within 6 months).
- LEED accreditation or equivalent sustainability certification is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in landscape architecture, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role.
- Extensive experience in construction administration and built work, including managing on-site implementation and problem-solving during the construction phase.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering large-scale projects across various sectors.
- Proven experience in project management, including managing budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Proficiency in design software such as Vectorworks or AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, Lumion, and/or SketchUp.
- Strong technical knowledge of grading, planting, irrigation, stormwater management, and construction detailing.
- Ability to produce high-quality technical drawings, 3D visualizations, and presentation materials.
- Familiarity with GIS and other data-driven tools is a plus.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire clients and stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Willingness to travel for client meetings, site visits, and project coordination as needed.
