Job Summary
Red House Solutions is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our team in the Burnaby office. This full-time role will oversee all financial aspects of the business, ensure compliance, and provide professional support for operations, planning, and analysis. Responsibilities include defining and implementing financial processes, preparing reports and forecasts, and building relationships with financial officers, bookkeepers, and other representatives of our clients. The position also involves providing administrative, logistics and related assistance as and when needed. RHS is looking for a proactive individual with excellent communication skills and a passion for efficiency.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
- Analyze and update current and historical financial information for internal and external financial reporting requirements, including monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Resolve invoice queries and variances with vendors or internal clients.
- Investigate outstanding amounts, compare figures, and prepare month-end accrual journal entries.
- Complete month-end and year-end cutoff procedures.
Operations of Financial Systems:
- Manage accounts receivable processes, including invoicing and collections.
- Manage accounts payable processes, including invoice processing and payment cycles.
- Maintain vendor and client records.
- Compile and manage scheduled cheque and electronic payment runs.
- Ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow projections.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in developing budgets and prepare recommendations and presentations.
- Analyze financial and management information and provide advice and recommendations.
- Conduct financial and cost analysis to support corporate initiatives and provide advice to staff and clients.
- Identify, assess, apply, and maintain internal financial system controls.
Other Accountabilities:
- Research, develop, evaluate, and implement changes to financial policy, procedures, and systems.
- Assess financial risks and impacts, analyze strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities, and advise supervisors on actions to reduce or mitigate potential or actual financial risks.
- Safeguard Red House data and ensure proper systems and security are in place.
- Assist supervisors with the day-to-day administration of the people component.
Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Proficient in accounting principles, practices, and concepts.
- Familiarity with Federal and Provincial Government financial regulations and standards, internal controls, and financial policies.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prepare financial reports and prioritize work.
- Experience managing accounts receivable processes.
- Proficiency in Xero/QBO/Sage/Excel, and other similar associated software option as well as the Microsoft 365 suite of applications.
- Not-for-profit or affordable housing sector experience is a bonus.
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years' experience as an Accounting Clerk
- 2+ years' experience in Accounting or Bookkeeping.
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Bookkeeping.
- Advanced degree in accounting is a bonus.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement preparation, and accounting software.
- Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, people, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Other Requirements
The Accounting Clerk will need a driver’s license and personal vehicle.
