Job Overview: As a Personal Support Worker (PSW), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in hospital settings. Your role will involve providing support with daily living activities, ensuring patient comfort, and assisting nursing staff with medical and personal care needs.
How You Will Spend Your Days:
- Patient Care Support: Turning, repositioning, and assisting patients with mobility and transfers between bed, wheelchair, stretcher, and other positions.
- Personal Care Assistance: Changing soiled briefs and clothing, dressing/undressing patients, and providing dental care.
- Feeding & Toileting Support: Assisting with feeding and drinking (as approved by nursing staff), and supporting patients with toileting needs.
- Bathing & Hygiene Support: Providing bed baths or assisting patients with showers.
- Safety Monitoring: Ensuring patients are safe when ambulating and preventing wandering when it's unsafe.
- Collaboration with Nursing Staff: Assisting nurses with bedside care, and supporting other hospital staff as needed.
- Emotional Support: Offering companionship and emotional support to patients during their hospital stay.
What We're Looking For:
- Personal Support Worker Certificate (required)
- 1-year experience working in a healthcare or hospital setting (preferred)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (required)
- Current police check (required)
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with patients and team members
- Ability to work independently and follow directions from nursing staff
- Problem-solving skills to address patient needs in a fast-paced environment
- Training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches or Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (preferred)
